Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I'm curious if you're an FF fan. I never really was one, and I get the feeling those with hooks in this game probably feel the same way. The game is drop dead gorgeous, but the themepark questing and static nature really don't do too much for me. The anime people and doll like race really are...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

This is open beta, correct? Where does one download the client? I checked the main site and couldn't find a link. Google also was completely worthless. -Found it.. Its on the beta forums... Not the best place for an open beta download...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

I was cautiously optimistic for this game, but after visiting a friend who is in beta and playing it for a few hours I have to say this game is just completely awful. I have zero interest in this game now.

    Rift: Planes of Telara

Chop, chop, chop... My guess is a lot more people will be leaving Trion shortly. It's a shame, as it's a soild game and a good team. The problem was more one of timing and market saturation. I've been playing Rift lately, and it's probably the best themepark game out there.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

Every few months Blizzard sends out a free week or two of playtime, and that generally is enough for me. Anytime I get the urge to play besides those times, I just visit the official forums. It's got all the drama with none of the grind or cost. win/win. I do agree Blizz can tell a hell of...

    Guild Wars 2

What are the 'real objectives'? The server vs server RvR really was a bust. What they needed was more of a Frontiers approach, with Realm Ranks or some equivalent, and also some form of small teams combat so you could roll out your Skald again, Mist. Nothing is personal or meaningful, and there...

    Guild Wars 2

I honestly haven't played almost at all since I was bored with WvW and saw no need to grind out a few levels for no apparent reason. They weren't exploit weapons. I did buy them all from a vendor! Granted, the price was... low, but hey they make the rules. My big gripes about the game...

    Guild Wars 2

Welp, just hit 80. I had purchased some Karma level 80 weapons last time I played, and it looks like Arenanet decided they didn't want them bought cheap so they're gone from my bank. I think I'll take a year or five off from this game.

    Guild Wars 2

I finished it. My problem wasn't the Mouth, which I used the pillars to beat, it was being instagibbed by the waves of undead the moment I sat down in the ranged siege weapon to attack the boat. On the third try I finally took off all my armor, trapped the undead via a bug on the rocks, and then...

    Guild Wars 2

Since I've been bored with other games, I fired this up. I figured I'd get my 75 Thief to 80. I'm on the 75 Starving the Beast storyline and a hearty fuck you to the idiots who designed this encounter, which is impossible to kite, straight up fight, or do anything but die via attrition over and...

    Everquest II

I feel your pain. I have a level 70 Warlock and a level 40 Ranger. I tried to play them last week but honestly have no frickin idea what I'm doing. I fired it up a new character three times over the last two days just because I have absolutely nothing else to play, and forced myself to play a...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

Sub turnover is more from the age of the game than the fact it's been built to appeal to a very wide range of audiences. The hardcore are a very small part of their audience, and in my opinion shrinking all the time. Gating content so 80% of your playerbase won't see it might make for a...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

Why is this a bad thing, again? There still is very difficult content, and not walling out a majority of endgame content to the 1% is probably good design. The world for most is a casual place. The reason WOW owns the MMO universe is they did not design for the FOH lifers who owned Everquest.

Scott Hartsman returns to Trion, takes CEO role

Actually, given the staggering amount of people who play DOTA2 and LoL, I'd think it would be an easier road to travel down than the mainline MMO world. I'm amazed at how popular MOBAs are, as I really don't care for them. I feel the same way about ''playing card' games, though, so I guess to...

Scott Hartsman returns to Trion, takes CEO role

That's a shame for Archeage, as I think that game had a lot of potential. I'm still uneasy about Domino as Defiance any way you slice it was a train wreck for the company. Mughal, realistically, what can Hartsman do to salvage the company or is his reappearance just a ploy to try to make...

Scott Hartsman returns to Trion, takes CEO role

Smed is to MMOs what Steve Ballmer is to software development. Hartsman has already emailed 'the troops'.. From Gamesutra:Hartsman said: "We're going to rapidly be laying the groundwork for a new strategy at Trion -- one that's closer to the foundation of how we've had our wins so far, and...

I wonder how much more nickel and diming will be in place by the time EQN enters beta. You might actually have to pay dinero to get a key to open a crate, a la TF2. Ratonga? 500 Station Credits. Extra Bag space? 750 Credits. In my one day of playing EQ2 I think I've seen a few dozen popups...

I don't think the 500,000 core legacy Everquest players are their actual target audience, though. To quote Cardinal Glick: Hook them while they're young! Also, the game will be multi faceted.

Scott Hartsman returns to Trion, takes CEO role

Lars was the founder and did put some of his cash down to start the company. He also brought in Hartsman to be his tech/creative guy. Butler was a former EA executive, and part of me wonders how much of their crappy corporate mentality he brought to the table. If I had to guess, I'd say Hartsman...

    SWTOR

I play this game extremely casually so I don't feel the need to pony up for it. However, if I wanted to put more than a few hours a month into it, I'd pay the sub fee. It's not the worst F2P option out there, but you definitely lose a lot of convenience factors by not subbing. I'm preferred...

    SWTOR

They still want you to sub. There are simple ways around most things. If you want to send money to your alt, use the AH. Even if your alt is a separate faction, use the Galactic AH. You don't lose any cash above 350k, it's just in escrow. F2P have a 25% exp penalty. It's nothing since...

    Camelot Unchained MMO

I disagree completely. I'd prefer they hired someone new who hasn't had to deal with the neckbeards and who doesn't have a history in the genre. This game is not DAOC. Not all of us were big fans of Sonya (Sanya? I can't remember either). I really don't see why they need to hire anyone at...

You know, the more I think about getting rid of the 'holy trinity', the more I actually like the idea as long as they don't remove healing and crowd control completely. The whole concept of one big monster beating on the most unkillable person while 18 squishy people surround him doing...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

Have you tried Chivalry, Medieval Warfare? I like their direction for a coop or MMO more so than Dark Souls. I love DS but it's pretty much designed for single player. The invasions were fun, but nothing that translates to my type of coop or good PVE.

I think there will be crowd control, healing, and aggro management but with their multi classing setup what they are saying is if your A number 1 cleric leaves, your group won't die. I'm actually cool with that. I have concerns with the multi classing, but my guess is grouping will be a...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

I have to strongly disagree here. I'm a huge Dark Souls fan, but their method of combat does not really apply itself to tactical MMORPG game playing. The huge swath of neckbeards who never would figure out how to parry would also doom your game.

My guess is the Titan game was blown for exactly the same reason the EQ Next game was blown up a few years ago. The game wasn't that good. That's par for the course for Blizzard, but something new for SOE. Smed was right on one front: The Diku/AD&D clone McMMO has grown fairly stale. I don't...

I agree Big Flex. I think a lot of people are missing this: Terry: Things are not set in stone, we're committed to working with you. This is not Gospel. Things are subject to change based on feedback. I think the foundation will stay the same but a lot of things class wise probably are...

The game isn't even in alpha, the PCs were invulnerable, and the optimization probably was shit to boot. They have a prototype. I wouldn't really worry about the combat sequence or the ghastly AE display of pixel silliness that was shown.

I'm exceedingly curious how this will work out with their multi class, non-traditional level design.
