Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

It"s funny though. The thread was fairly civil up until now. Critical? Sure, but at least it was civil... and leave it to some douchenozzle to come in and start talking about greased up dudes fingering assholes. Next time you want to drop the "forums turning to shit" card, you can look at posts...

HAI GUYZ! I heard we were making fun of people on an internet MMO forum!?

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

Denial, confidence.. arrogance. The line is blurry when talking about some people. Maybe Brad truly believes that the state of the game where bugs, errors, and incompleteness is concerned is of little consequence. Maybe he thinks he can break amazing new ground and be the first game to recover...

Heh ya. I think the message got to the right people, the problem is that it wasn"t the message that Sigil wanted them to get.

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

I don"t recall seeing anyone here complain that Brad wasn"t posting. I also don"t see anyone complaining that he did post. I do see people questioning the content of said post though, and they are right to. 95% of it is shilly fluff that says nothing other than what we have heard for the last...

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

This may sound cliche, but I think a lot of it stems from jealousy. Jealous of the fact that FoH has been a prominent organization since the dawn of MMO"s, and devs and industry leaders recognize that fact. Plus it is a great unofficial outlet for airing laundry and tackling issues that you...

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

That thread literally scares the bejeezus out of me. Honestly, if I were Brad I would come here and face people like Ut, Hiram, etc. before I responded to people like that Rourke character.

And I"ll third it. Expectations were not managed one iota during development and beta. People sat on the general forums dreaming of candy canes and gumdrops, speaking with "authority" about exactly how the game would be based on the FAQ.. and Sigil let it run rampant. When the game turned out to...

I"m pretty sure you have to know someone orbesomeone to get a tour. Well, as long as you aren"t from a rival company making a competing product.

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

To actually answer the question, the world is not round. It"s flat. Brad said that one day they would like to have it be "round" where you could sail one direction and make a full orbit. Also, they don"t need to add more area to add more land masses because 75% of the curent gameworld is...

Why all the nerd rage against Vanguard

Ells, you can"t make negative comments about VG, especially if you don"t play the game! Jeez, where have you been? You can"t say something like "I prefer WoW"s art over VG"s technical shiny plastic". But I guess if you felt the opposite it"s okay to say: Gotta love double standards. Anyway...

QFT. People like to complain about WoW being linear or on rails, when this is much worse. No it doesn"t just "introduce" them to the world, it tells them exactly what they are and why they are doing it. And you still "kill 10 spiders", only they are villagers and monks and not just spiders or...

Pretty much most of them other than the previously mentioned "go kill 1000"s of snakes and kobold runts" introduction that has been extinct for a while now.

Sorry, it was a general comment directed to more than one post on the previous page saying:

While it may be better than "go kill 100 decaying skeletons and fire beetles" that some other game offers, it is far from the best newb experience in any game ever. If people really think this is the best VG has to offer, then I guess some people just have radically different tastes or expectations.

Making mistakes is fine. They will happen, it"s how much you learn from them and how quickly you are able to identify and rectify those mistakes that counts in the eyes of the consumer. As long as the mistake isn"t the "nasa computers will be available by release" mistake.

Well the answer is simple then. If the middleware saves you time and/or money and gives you a tool that is as good as anything you can do yourself, then use it. If you can do it yourself cheaper/faster/better, then do that instead. I don"t think most gamers care who makes what as long as the...

Generally irrelevant as long as the game runs well and is fun to play. If you are talking about stuff like SpeedTree, then I don"t see why you wouldn"t use it. It works as well as anything else and saves you time and money.

Just make sure you have time to play your own game as it"s being made so that you actually know what direction it"s going in. Nothing more embarassing than saying "We will/won"t have this" then the opposite happens.
