Correct, you don't need the charges on hit prefixes as pathfinder for sustaining flask uptime. But if you have Master Surgeon, it's a ton of life sustain. I don't think Poison Concoction has much in the way of competitors for ascendancy points.

Assuming you're playing pathfinder, you never manually activate flasks. Get prefixes that gives charges when hit, a few of the flask gen passives from the tree, and craft to auto use when full. Tons of sustain, always on.
