I haven't played in a bit, but on harder difficulty you were always outnumbered by quite a lot, so damage dealer wasn't really a thing, as rogues and archers could neither engage an enemy nor kill an enemy by themselves. IIRC sword/board heavy armor was the way to go, abusing the riposte...

Asimov's robots books are all about how the three laws don't work in practice, this is like saying you want to adopt Jurassic Park's safety protocols 8) There's so many assumptions built in about AI cognition and human behavior - if some random guy tells your robot 'Jump off the bridge or I'm...

    Final Fantasy 16

I can agree that simple strategy where you are forced to execute it extremely quickly takes more skill than doing it slowly - Tetris is probably the canonical example - but dismissing anything not real time as having little to no strategy is pretty derpy, given the existence of games like chess.

    The Mandalorian

That was more an excuse to try and convince the Colonel, he wanted to rescue them for personal reasons. As far as excuses go, it's also pretty stupid - how, exactly, does the pirate problem become worse if they make that town into a 'pirate base' ? They are going to convert the thriving heavy...

    Genshin Impact

For how long though ? I mean there's like a hundred hours of unskippable mediocre anime cutscenes alone. Opening every chest in the game would probably take upwards of a few hundred hours even if you used a guide and pre-prepared maps. It's probably one of the most content rich games of casual...

    Age of Wonders 4

I was a bit wary of that one initially, but after I thought about it a bit, I am fully in favor. Deliberately stringing out already won fights so you can run guys around and heal them was always degenerate gameplay that wasn't much fun. I'm playing spellforce conquest at the moment on the...

    The Mandalorian

Who needs imperial spies to derail rescue missions when the Colonel can look the planet up and see it has a total population of 30 people. As far as wastes of resources go, this is kind of like taking an aircraft carrier to rescue little timmy from a well.

E1 wasn't bad, but didn't really excite me, seemed a bit generic. Might check out more later.

    Rabbit Hole

I thought the first episode of this was pretty good. Surprisingly twisty without becoming ridiculous. We'll see if they keep that balance up, but I'll definitely check out more.

    The Mandalorian

I could see some comedy there with her trying various ways to work out how to eat stuff, only to realize that everyone else has already finished and is cleaning up. Not very realistic, but neither is what they actually did. I suppose that implies it's canon that they have sex with their helmets...

    The Mandalorian

100% agree, I was coming here to gripe about this myself ;p It's actually *worse* than that though - when they are about to start climbing up for the rescue, the dialogue from the chief numbskull is So, not only do this bunch of knuckleheads live next to a child eating monster, it has...

    Chat GPT AI

That's true, but I think it's missing the main thing that people are surprised by. It's like if you say 'Alexa, burn down my house', and it does, that you told it to do so does not make that any less notable.

    Diablo 4 / IV / IIII / Fore / Cope / Seethe

The Asmongold stream of this was unintentional comedy gold - spends 20 minutes getting his hair right, then a minute playing before it lags out, crashes, deletes his character and then locks his account when he tries to create a new one ;p

A+ space lasers, C- political intrigue. I blame Andor for making them feel like people weren't taking them seriously. ( They aren't, they are here for the space lasers ).

I was just coming to post about this - I was reading the ARS article about it, kind of rolling my eyes at taking that kind of testing seriously enough to hire an external firm to do it and then ran into:

Interestingly, he recently released his next book on Royal Road - Death, Loot and Vampires, apparently for the cheap editing ;p I assume he'll move it to KU in a bit. It's not in the same series - premise on this one is dude getting Isekaied to a particular shithole of a world, where he...

Not great, not terrible. It's basically the trailer, but longer.

    True Lies

I watched the first episode out of morbid curiosity - the super short review would be 'blandly inoffensive'.

    Silo

Yeah, Wool was not YA at all except by the definition that goes 'doesn't have hardcore sex scenes in it'. ( YA is a pretty wishy-washy category, mostly based on marketing not content )

    Star Trek: Picard

Very much this. So much of early DS9 was so boring that it earned the unofficial nickname 'Deep Sleep 9' among my friends. There were moments of greatness in there, but there was also lot of bland episodes I couldn't give you the plot for with a gun to my head.

    Diablo 4 / IV / IIII / Fore / Cope / Seethe

I watched that at random earlier, guy pretty much lost me when he started going on about how amazing bind on pickup was and how it solved everything. Also, the same item has a different appearance if looted in a different area ? Oooh, excitement.

    Age of Wonders 4

Paradox is publisher only for this one, the dev is Triumph Studios. So they *probably* won't release $8000 worth of DLC.

3 has some amazing mod development too. hopefully they are as open/easy to mod in 4, as the will is obviously there. Watched the char and world creation video for 4 - that's some serious customization - looks promising.

    The Mandalorian

It's actually kind of funny, one of the biggest combat problems of Distant Worlds 2 was that fighters didn't have hyperdrives and carrier operations became an absolute shitshow because of it. The logistics of carrier operations become a shitload weirder when the carrier is faster than the fighters.

    The Mandalorian

The episode was decent overall, but that was some top quality nostalgia powered space laser pew pew. The insane impracticality of Mando's ship still bugs me though - I'm assuming he just stops off on random asteroids to take a piss ? ;p

I thought this started really well, but floundered a bit in the second half. Still entertaining overall. Unsurprisingly Waltz carries the show even more than James Spader carries the Blacklist. Chat GPT AI

It doesn't actually understand questions as such, so trying to modify it's behavior is very hit and miss. It's part of the reason it lies so much - telling it not to lie is a lot more complicated than you'd think because it doesn't understand the relationships between things, and truth is...

    What are you playing?

Yeah, Riftbreaker is good fun. I particularly like the weapon visuals; burninating the zerg hordes with the flamethrower feels very satisfying. Surprisingly high production values all around.

    What are you playing?

Element TD2 - another well-polished and expansive tower defense game. I did not like this one as much as previous ones, I am not sure why - it kind of felt more puzzley than others, like it was a matter of picking the 'right' towers out of the ones available, and which ones were the right ones...

    Star Trek: Picard

First ep wasn't bad, although I was a bit confused by Seven's thoughts there - she seems to be treating it like a job at an office instead of the military. Sure you can be sick of your CO's shit, but mutiny and stealing a warship should be the kind of thing that gets you prison time, not fired no ?

    True Detective

I had no idea that Tarantino had even watched it, and wouldn't care if I had. I still thought S2 was a crushing letdown, with ludicrous rambling dialogue that apparently no-one other than McConaughey could make sound profound rather than stupid. It's ok to like stuff that other people don't -...

That is EQ style, not WoW style. WoW style is that the instant an expansion drops everything before it becomes a pointless waste of time.

    Lockwood & Co.

Oh sure, 'adults are dumb and just don't understand' along with 'life is just so, like, unfair' are the staples of the YA genre, it's just this particular example impressed me with how ridiculously unrealistic it was.
