No, they could have added it later. They've added more content than any games I can think of except maybe Minecraft/Terraria/Stardew. You can capture creatures and send them to your freighter, but there's no creature breeding or trading.

Not sure how you took any of what I said as an endorsement of DEI. Not-scapegoating something is not the same as an endorsement. But whatever, that's the world we live in. No one can have a nuanced take on anything anymore, and then people wonder how we all got so dumb.

VCs have to manage enormous amounts of risk to stay afloat, and investing in people who remind you of yourself is always seen as psychologically less risky. This is just how human biases work. "People who remind you of yourself" can mean a lot of things, but it can definitely lead to racially...

What? When was this question even asked? This was about how tech startups (apps) are funded and how it's nothing like how video games are funded. Anyway, I'll just leave this here: But yeah, it's definitely the white guys being denied opportunities in this economy of ours. That's why your...

My point is just that it costs a lot of money to scale something like Instagram, where it generally costs inverse money (costs go down the more copies you sell) to sell more copies of an indie game that doesn't require any centralized server infrastructure. So, again, apples to oranges.

Every single one of these companies fired less than half the # of people they hired during the pandemic. Usually around a third, oddly consistent throughout the entire industry. Also, most of them are still hiring. This is just a backlog of normal stack-rank turnover that was put off because...

We're not even talking about the same thing. You're comparing a small business loan for a few $K to a top tech company being able to get <2% loans for $billions to defensively hire anything that looked like talent to starve competitors, which is a thing they did the entire time loan money was...

Scaling Instagram or Snapchat is infinitely more complex, and expensive, than selling more copies of an indie game (which Steam just handles for you, taking their cut, a cut which generally shrinks the more copies they sell, so you actually get inverse scaling costs.) It's even considerably...

Because the top dogs had infinite low-interest, nearly free money from the fed to monopolize talent. This is the real reason for a decade of inflated headcounts at top tech companies - they were actively trying to starve startups and mid-tiers of talent.

The pareto rule pre-dates the internet by quite a lot. Many highly influential business texts have been published on the topic, going back nearly a century. Heck, Scott Adams wrote and entire Dilbert book about this, ironically.
