DD-WRT is open source firmware right? The Asus I linked above runs AsusWRT, which I assumed was a proprietary fork of DD-WRT but maybe I'm wrong about that.

On a side note. The question and answer section of Amazon is infuriating. Q: Is this router a good modem for netflix? A: I dont' know A: No idea I don't use netflix A: Couldn't tell you sorry A: What is Netflix? WHY WOULD YOU POST ON AMAZON TO SAY THAT YOU DON'T KNOW THE...

    NFL 2014 Off-Season Thread

If this is true it's probably about Harbaugh wanting to be the GM as well as coach. I hope they don't go that way, Baalke has done a great job with the last few drafts. If it's about money then the 49ers need to just STFU and pay him because if they don't there are plenty of other teams that will.

    Routers & Other Networking Stuff

I have read this thread and I have a basic question. As I have mentioned before, I have a very low data cap and every once in a while I get spikes in downloads that I can't explain and it fucks up my life royally. I have been told that some routers have firmware that can monitor your...

Marriage and the Power of Divorce

So people who come in and shake their ass for 8 games a year should be millionaires? No one is forcing them to be cheerleaders. If it took 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year to do the job then it makes sense that they would be full time employees but it doesn't sound like it's remotely close to...

    Travelling in California

I walked through the Tenderloin alone at midnight once. No one bothered me but I did have one totally insane conversation with a guy who alternated between giving me advice on where to find prostitutes and calling me a racist. I got asked for change like 25 times. I wanted to say "If I had...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

What the fuck does that have to do with anything? You still just have to pay the deductible. I'm not suggesting that you go without insurance. Again, you misunderstand my post. I'm not suggesting that they should buy their own insurance, just that they should not push for the Cadillac plan...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

Some of that stuff actually makes sense. I know two old timers in the last two months that fell and broke their hips, had a hip replacement the next day, and died within a week. I can't help wondering about the motivations there and whether things would have been different with another system...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

You're missing my point. It's not that people wouldn't like that, they just wouldn't pay for it themselves because it is wasteful. I would love to have a cheese whiz fountain in my living room, but it's wasteful so unless someone else is paying for it (or at least I *perceive* that someone...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

So you should have to live in a certain area if you want health care? I do think single payer is preferable to fully socialized health care, but it's just because it's only half government instead of 100%. It's just an example of how the government gets shit done (and I say this as someone...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

This is part of the reason that I am skeptical of putting the government in charge of a greater amount of health care. The VA is a fucking mess and it's our version of socialized medicine. One of my neighbors who is a navy vet broke his leg a couple years ago and he had to sit around for hours...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

Population density is helpful, not a a downside. In the US we have thousands and thousands of little podunk towns that still need a hospital. The prices quoted above are skewed by the fact that employers pay for insurance. As a 36 year old man with no notable health problems, I pay $275 a...

Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

I honestly have no idea what I want for health care in the US. There is zero chance of single payer or socialized health care because as Kreugen mentioned, it destroys the health insurance industry and whether or not that is a good thing, the health insurance industry has way too much juice in...

Wherever they're going, it's good news that they are still talking about expanding. Question about US healthcare (coming from a Brit)

FWIW, the US actually has 3 systems in place for health care. A fully socialized system (the VA for military veterans), a single-payer system (Medicare/Medicaid for the elderly and very poor), and a fully private system (everyone else).

Kreugen is spinning pretty hard here. Just keep in mind that he is pushing a political stance and exaggerating for that purpose.
