    Harley Quinn

This was good. A lot funnier than I expected. Hard R, language and violence. It's "SJW" insofar as Harley is trying to be taken seriously and get away from being seen as the Joker's girlfriend, but it's pretty much complete parody, witness the reactions to Dr Psycho calling wonderwoman a cunt...

    The Witcher

Finished it up - overall I thought it was good, but not great. Maybe 7/10 overall. Cavill was awesome, the scenery was great ( particularly the castle they were defending, although they obviously didn't have permission to film inside it ;p ), fights were great, overall effects were good, nice...

    The Expanse

Wheel of Time has an interesting take on that one, I'm interested to see what they do with Galad actor wise. From GoT the book, Stannis Baratheon is a more extreme example of how uncompromising lawfulness with the best intentions can end up as a monster, although show Stannis was more...

    The Expanse

Taking a quick look, 33 goes from Holden arguing with Miller about whether they should release the log data straight to the asteroid - it's got a break marker ( lightning bolt ) in between the two, so seems intentional.

    The Mandalorian

LOL those speeder pilots. "He just killed an officer for interrupting him... it may be some time."

    Undone

Yeah, I quite liked the show but the main chick is super annoying the whole way through. It's sort of the point that she's an unlikeable trainwreck, so yeah I'd skip it.

    The Expanse

Holden is super famous, but he's not famous for all good reasons - he started a war and he has gotten a shitload of people killed. Also, he's an Earther - for that confrontation it's like Tom Cruise showing up in gaza to negotiate between the israelis and palestinians and then being surprised...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

It was fine... for a transformers movie. Gorgeous set pieces, good action, mostly decent acting, terrible humor and the plot makes NO FUCKING SENSE. "But whyyyyy ?!?" was my immediate reaction to most everything that happened. Like - how did the evil plan with the dagger even work ? Also...

    The Expanse

In fairness, the actor doesn't have a lot to work with in the early seasons. In the book, Holden is pretty much a cardboard cutout in comparison to Miller. I'm almost 100% certain that Ty Franck wrote Holden for the book and that Abraham wrote the Miller side - he was several orders of...

    The Expanse

He's bad, although he gets better in s4. Naomi though, well... I agree with previous sentiment - Amos and Murtry killed it this season. Murtry is just a great bad guy - he just seems so reasonable even when he's being outright evil - his bosses probably love him.

    The Mandalorian

At first I thought the force choke was weird. Thinking about it though, prior to that 100% of the Mando's passengers have been in need of a force choke, so baby Yoda is probably all confused why Mando is yelling at him :emoji_smiling_imp: This kind of childhood is how you get feral yodalings ;p

    Snow Crash

If it sucks as much as Watchmen did, then I'll be very happy.

    The Mandalorian

The x-wings did mention they thought the station was launching fighters at them, and that's why they attacked. Presumably they'd normally start with 'Hey guy, what's up ?' rather than shooting. A prison transport seems like the kind of thing that might have air support nearby, and the type of...

    The Expanse

Bah, how can you not like Avasarala ? "Don't stick your dick in Holden, it's fucked enough already."
  15. V

    Watchmen

I'm pretty sure what they were going for is that him experiencing every moment at the same time means he can't actually change anything. It's sort of a given for being able to predict the future flawlessly - if you can do that, free will is impossible. Kind of a shitty life for him ;p

    Rick and Morty

Well, if nothing else, 'Power of Twelve Feet' was pretty funny. This clearly needs to be in the D&D rulebook.

I assumed Monica stole it, which is why she's working for 'definitely not the NSA'.

    Mr. Robot

It's annoyingly lazy. If you go by tv/movies, child abuse is the sole reason for like 99% of all mental conditions.

    The Mandalorian

Call it my inner troll, but I would love to have seen the online reactions if that bounty hunter headshotted baby yoda ;p While I don't disagree with the assessment, it's a little funny that a murderous blood-soaked rampage that's killed 50+ people so far still counts as a PG rated kid's show...

    The Mandalorian

Mando's attempts at being a dad are hilarious. 'Stay here ! Don't touch anything !'

    All things Brandon Sanderson

Overall an excellent book, however I offer two middle fingers and a chorus of 'booo's to Sanderson for the ending. Shows it's YA'ness a lot more than Skyward did, with a plan so ludicrous that even a team made up of Leeroy Jenkins and Wile E Coyote would raise some concerns about lack of planning.

    What did you just read?

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been collected into an ebook, the author would have put a notice on the site somewhere so that people knew they could buy it.

    Rick and Morty

I was pleasantly surprised at Elon Musk's ability to make fun of himself. Also, poor Netflix ;p

Oh, i didn't realise this was a serial too - looks like the amazon books are only half the series. That's convenient.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

Everything in WoW is a meaningless treadmill that goes nowhere, any progress or achievement is a hollow illusion - this is an objective fact. Despite this, if you buy into the illusion you can be entertained - it's a like a magic trick - you know it's not real, but it can be entertaining. The...

    Saints Row 5

SR3 is right up there with the most fun I've had playing a game. The ludicrous sense of humor was my kind of humor right from the intro - 'You're robbing a bank, disguised as... yourself ?' Heh. SR4 overall was a bit of a letdown, the whacky superpowers from SR3 were great fun, but they...

Book 4 almost made me quit reading the series, so I'd watch the show first and then skip book 4 ;p

    The Mandalorian

Hey, I have no star wars nerd cred, but if there tens of thousands of them, where were they in the movies ? Tens of thousands would also have meant thousands of kids in training surely ?

    The Mandalorian

As a counterpoint, very few people would disagree that shaolin monks exist in our world. There are plenty of stories about them having nonsensical abilities like being able to levitate. This doesn't mean most people believe those stories, or would not be surprised if they found a floating...

Ninth House - Leigh Bardugo Junkie high-school dropout gets made an offer she can't refuse - a clean slate as a student at Yale, cover for her actual duties of monitoring the occult activity of the nine secret societies that are based there. This was basically a nicely twisty murder mystery...

    The Mandalorian

First episode was really good, second episode is better. A great start overall. The 'showdown' on top of the crawler was lol'worthy. Baby Yoda is pretty much weaponised cuteness ( 'Spit that out !' ) An invincible machine of ass-kicking, the Mandalorian is not. Heh.

    The Fall 2019 Anime Thread

It's pretty funny - I reckon the townspeople would prefer getting overrun by monsters to being 'rescued' by him.

    Terminator (2019)

The 'industrial warehouse or whatever' in T1 was the Cyberdyne systems robotics factory, and the movie ended with Sarah pregnant with John Connor, heading to Mexico. T1 was all a closed time loop where the terminator trying to kill Sarah made John exist, and Reese trying to kill the terminator...

    His Dark Materials

While I can sympathize with that perception, I did say it was the opening text - that's literally the first second of the first episode.

    His Dark Materials

I liked it. That opening text though - whoever thought this was a good idea for font, color and background needs a good smack upside the head.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

That argument, if accepted, has no end point - why have multiple talents when one is the best ? why have specs when one of them is the best ? Why have different classes if one of them is the best ? Why have things that are only fun or flavor ? Slippery slope sure, but Blizzard have been...
