    Black Mirror

The pop-star one and smithereens didn't really feel very black mirror to me. I liked the story of the popstars one even if it was meaningless positive fluff, which is probably deliberate irony. Smithereens but was good, but 'is facebook having total surveilance power bad?' as a theme is not only...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

My brain is slightly broken - of all the preposterous and unbelievable things that happened in this series, I found the *least* plausible thing to be that a single person further away than Jon heard a single word of that speech, and he doesn't speak Dothraki ! I can't help picturing The Life of...

    What did you just read?

Yeah, the main character is hopelessly unfocused, if his chamberlain wasn't superhumanly competent he'd be totally screwed ;p The dwarf thing is consistent though - they are a long way away and not that much time elapses during the series.

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

What's worse, they actually pan away in the direction the bolts came from after Rhaegal is shot, and there's no line of sight to anything except the island - which is over 2 miles away. Not to mention the direction the bolts came from - that was serious grassy knoll shit - the first one comes...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Well yeah, once they achieve it - maybe that guy was really excited, but dropping your pants for a quick raping when the enemy are like 6ft away and your own air support is firebombing the city you are in seems a little on the risky side.

    Veep

*That* was how you wrap up a series. That was like a whole season's worth of sick burns in one episode, along with some surprisingly emotional moments. And that speech to Tom James' campaign manager - holy shit, ouch.

    What did you just read?

b]Holy Sister ( Book of the Ancestor 3 ) - Mark Lawrence[/b] This one was pretty good, and wraps up the series nicely. I appreciated having no idea where anything was going and it cleared up some questions I had from previous books*. I am not sure I share their optimism for uses of the mirror...

I dunno, I thought last season of Veep was kind of weak, but this one is completely on fire with non-stop hilarity.

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Uninvolved in said arms deal. I am not sure where the moral confusion is coming from here either - it's like arranging to buy a bunch of missiles off Raytheon, showing up, shooting all their reps and then firing the missiles at Waltham MA, because fuck those guys, they are all partially...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

That's not how the drinking game works - the challenge was that Brienne is a virgin - issuing the challenge to the whole table would be a recipe for quick death by alcohol poisoning ;p

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

As awesome a scene as the acquisition of the Unsullied was in the books - consider for a moment from someone else's point of view. Dany reneges on an arms deal by killing the dealers and then uses her stolen weapons to commit genocide on uninvolved civilians. "It's ok because they were bad...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

Heh, that'd be a series of lucky shots - for fucking guided missiles. Star Wars called to ask Qyburn for tips because their ship to ship weapons don't have that kind of range or accuracy.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

Literally everything. World quests work similarly, but are far less compelling with the loss of mount rewards from the caches, and the chance of legendary drops. Azerite sucks from start to finish, they took the grind from the artifact weapons and dropped all of the interesting parts. Where...

    Age of Wonders: Planetfall

Ok, this one took me from very interested to buy. Looks like they have mixed in a lot of xcom ( the new one ) influences to the existing age of wonders and I love the bizarre insanity of the races*, with that power armor guy smashing through cars to hit things with his rocket hammer lol...

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

That's actually a common theme through the series - as far as I remember, every single prophecy completely fucks with whoever is trying to do anything about it - clearly the sensible response for that world to someone telling you they had a vision of the future is to tell them to shut the fuck up.

    Westworld

The intro is pretty good too, although I suppose that's half soundtrack. In a time when a lot of shows are skipping them to make more room for ads, it stands out with Game of Thrones and Black Sails as one of the best.

    Swamp Thing

Titans, like ST:D, just reeks of the money spent on it; IMO there's not a chance that it is even faintly profitable. Doom Patrol is a bit more restrained, but it's very niche, I can't see it getting a wide audience. Overall I can't see how they thought there was any chance with the limited...

    The Magicians

They ran out of book series content in season 2, so the tighter plotting to an overall arc is probably what you are missing there. I still *like* season 3 and 4 more overall though, the characters are just so fun.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

This is Blizzard - you are thinking a measured small adjustment in response to OP balance ? Hahaha ;p They will nerf prot warrior dps so hard that they have to give all healers misdirect to compensate, mages in completely different raids will gain aggro on the pull.

    What did you just read?

Cold Iron - Miles Cameron First book of the Masters & Mages series - epic fantasy, with early gunpowder level technology. Refreshingly avoids the main character being the amazingly awesome chosen one - he's more the John McClane type - wrong place, wrong time. An average student mage heading...

    Warrior

The tits and violence genre has been sadly lacking of late. This show seems a worthy entry, but I'd probably watch it even if the first episode sucked, for the same reason I watched Spartacus.

    The Twilight Zone

Eh, this seemed ok to me. The first two stories were pretty unoriginal though, does give me a lot of hope for something new from the rest of it. Complaining aboutthe 2A jokes is ridiculous though, that the jokes were pathetic and not even slightly funny was the whole point.

James S.A. Corey - The Expanse

You mean how they are trying to destroy all life in the universe ? Or that they live in stars ? Or that they look like birds ? I mean, is there anything similar other than being mysterious ?

James S.A. Corey - The Expanse

Well, the proto-builders were clearly a bunch of shitheads. That doesn't mean the extradimensional aliens aren't also shitheads, but there's pretty strong evidence that they don't do anything unless provoked.

    Shazam! (2019)

Mmm, I'm torn - on the one hand it was fun, entertaining and well-acted. On the other hand it was trite, unoriginal and silly. It had more of the Adam West batman sensibility, where there's not really any consequences for anything, no matter how recklessly stupid and dangerous it is. In my...

The Land (2-6) - Aleron Kong I was underwhelmed by the first book, which I reviewed here a while ago, but it had an interesting enough concept to get me to try the 2nd one later. Love, Death & Robots

It's kind of weird - you have one set of people complaining about 'aaah! feminism', and the other set complaining about 'ahhh! hates women' about the same thing. It's extra funny because it all seems to come from a minor change to the original story.

    Love, Death & Robots

This series as a whole was great. While they obviously weren't consistent quality, I didn't really dislike any of them except the Hitler one. Some pretty amazing animation in there, enough that my initial reaction to 'Ice Age' was 'no way', rather than 'wait, why isn't this animated'.

    Love, Death & Robots

Sonnie's edge is probably my favorite of Hamilton's short stories. They changed it up a bit to put Sonnie in a more positive light, but it was great to see it animated with that quality.
