    World of Warcraft: Current Year

While I side with the roots of your overall sentiment, you do realize this particular new "feature" is simply a couple of number formulas right? The drops have a chance to be +X ilvl. Done and done. They are not losing any significant dev time on it.

Except Blizzard specifically went the way of the retard in their progression of WoW with regard to LFG tools, and LFD is not to be praised for creating more player/world interaction. Had the game shipped with a real LFG UI tool that DID NOT do everything for you, but DID in fact give you the...

Holy FUCK these guys sure can make cinematics. Their overall game design abilities have slipped quite a bit, but... fuck!

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

I'm aware that was their announced intention, yes. And yet, I can remember plenty of times when I was the only one in a cave for a quest, and had this issue. Perhaps their defined areas were too big, who knows. Point is, their coding for it was not as refined as he made it sound. Sabbat, the...

    Django Unchained

Did you miss the transformation of his character during the movie? For whatever reason, Django's plight brought something out in him, and at least in the short term, his life became about helping Django. I don't really think either situation is terribly OOC, particularly the money. The death...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

This is 100% untrue. In Vanilla there were plenty of areas or situations where you would move quickly through an area and still be met with respawns on your way out. In fact no time in my WoW career have I noted an absolute "fix" to this. Still occasionally I'll come across a respawn rate that...

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls

Did you even read my post? I didn't say it is fixable with a patch, I completely agree that it's not. That's why I think it (and the linear quest system) are the biggest things keeping this from being a suitable D2 follow-up. It is completely clear that Jay Wilson doesn't even understand Diablo...

Diablo 3 - Reaper of Souls

Biggest draw for me for that feature would be the lack of story/cutscene/shit to get interrupted by. That's the main reason this will never hold a candle to Diablo 2 for me and many other people. You can say apologist stuff like "but you can just skip it in 1.7 seconds!" all day, but it doesn't...

Yeah, my friends and I are loving our campaign of Descent. Can't get enough!
  13. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

The assertion is not that they were philanthropic in nature, it's that they were created as games, and sold for money. Which is counter to most of today's AAA shit that is created SOLELY for money, with no regard for creating a compelling game. Honestly if you guys can't look at the video...

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

Just one of the many things that makes WoW less of a MMORPG and more of a mini-games lobby.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

I think they were a neat gimmick when used sparingly in early WotLK. I think at this point, the frequency with which you are not playing your character is something like 20% during quests, instances, raids, whenever, and that's about 18% too much IMO.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

If this were anything but WoW, I'd respond by sarcastically saying "yeah, good idea, even more instances where you don't actually play your character, as if all the gimmicky vehicle bullshit isn't enough." But this is WoW, and we're way past that.

Planescape Torment Kickstarter: A spiritual sequel to be set in Monte Cook's Numenera

Screw these Baldur's Gate updates, give me a working version of Planescape: Torment. I can't get the old version to run without massive video issues, basically unplayable.
  18. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

Yeah which is very damaging actually, and there are tons of other situations like this. Nobody remembers phone numbers anymore unless they're very easy/repetitive, due to cell phone storage, etc. Take away people's daily technology and they're fucking useless.
  19. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

It's really the existence of GPS type stuff... a map, no matter how detailed, whether or not it's in-game etc. doesn't have the same effect because you still have to convert the map to your char's location via your own mind, just like IRL.

Some of you guys have a hard time understanding pure black (African) apparently. None of the ones you've mentioned are anywhere close (cept I don't know who Jumai whatever is), and the first one on your link is most certainly not.
  23. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

Being able to navigate a world without a GPS is part of the "skill" involved in being a good MMO player. Removing that aspect just dumbs stuff down. Like people have said, both have their merits, it depends on your target audience and game design goals.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

I'd be willing to bet it doesn't often. The average WoW player will bitch and moan about the smallest thing, but I doubt many of them are at sub-cancellation level. And despite Blizzard's great game designers being few and far between nowadays, they are extremely good at a few things, and one of...

    Board Games

Yeah interesting. Descent is probably the most well balanced DM vs. Players board game I've come across, I've been impressed at the quest design, as have my friends. Oh well! @Mr. Creed - I was going to suggest the D&D games (Ravenloft, Ashardalon, and that Drizzt one), but it sounds like...
  28. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

Yes, but there is also the fact that progression servers are still EQ, a game which has had its ins and outs known for years upon years. A new game built similar to EQ would not be quite as inscrutable as it originally was, due to how easy it is to surf websites and shit while you play, and...

    Board Games

Weird, my group (four friends and me) really enjoys Descent. The fact that the DM guy (me in this case) has equivalent goals, and the overall balance of the winner's rewards seemed really well done IOO (in our opinions, lul). I'd almost just buy the master Ettin off of you because mine came with...

    The Walking Dead

He's in the minority of people, with me and a couple others on here, who find the most interesting aspect the societal issues raised in the scenario. The zombies are a backdrop, thus a lack of AGMZOBMIEACTION for a few episodes is largely unnoticed by us. I agree with him, from that perspective...

Spaceward Ho! was just made (i)universal, so I picked it up for my iPhone. Had been checking on it every few weeks since I had noticed it for iPad, and played the everliving fuck out of it as a kid at school.
  32. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

I don't think you know what permanent means. Reset and permanent are mutually exclusive by their literal definitions. I realize you're saying "permanent within their particular reset" but that's like saying "he's big for a midget." Still a fucking midget. I'm referencing WoW's gear resets...
  33. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

You're just arguing the niche vs. mass market point. Pretty much everyone agrees you can't do what you're saying in mass market, that's not what most old-schoolers are wanting. There's nothing stopping a game from doing Sleeper type events in their persistent world, it just won't attract the...

Me too. And we legitimately found the Mega Man 3 invicible cheat by doing that. Although for awhile I just thought my game was bugging to shit, as I was occasionally jumping 50 feet in the air and being like "WTF IS GOING ON?"

  36. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

That's an interesting premise, but that is completely counter to what a lot of people are wanting being old school MMO players who are tired of the WoW era of bullshit. They want meaningful persistent worlds, not resets. WoW does resets (a version).
  37. Seananigans

Actually yeah, I hadn't thought about it recently, but the gear reset in TBC was the first big FUCK YOU hugely bad decision I thought they made. Beginning of the end, really.
  38. Seananigans

    Well, now what?

Yeah, but so? You wouldn't be able to compete with the kids who can devote 8 hours a day, but the fact that they can, and have better shit than you, makes the game actually feel like a persistent world and not Modern Warcraft 3 with hop-in/hop-out battles. I certainly don't have the time...
