It's much more likely that Bungie knows what they're doing with weapon balance and isn't worried, than to assume that they fucked up early on and are continuing to perpetuate a broken situation. You honestly think they would be scared of a couple nerfs?

You don't need a mic for strikes, but you should use one if you plan to do raids. Motes of light are accepted by a couple of npc's for class items and engrams. Strange coins are for a specific limited-time weekly merchant (Xur - xurday.com) that sells exotic items.

That's overkill, matchmaking should be available the second you unlock the missions. If you get a bad group, you get a bad group, that's a risk you take with random matchmaking.
