    Red 99 SZ/Team Server

Considering moving to red. Looking for honest answers to these questions: is there a board guild or a guild where board members have significant influence, for those starting fresh on the server is there leveling/gear help? Played enough EQ pvp to know that I don't want to start fresh on an...

I wonder if years from now we are going to look back and say to our kids 'I remember the days when you could just buy a game and play it out of the box without paying for anything else.' I'm really opposed to microtransactions and everything the are doing to the game industry. It may be...

Project 1999 - Making Norrath Great Again

This is precisely what they need to do. With server merges, it's not that hard to keep a rotation of 1 old server, 1 new server, merge, rinse, repeat. Would keep things fresh, fun, and would make content accessible to everyone (did not mean to make that rhyme).

Project 1999 - Making Norrath Great Again

The current server is very full and very stale now. They badly need to open another blue server. They could easily fill another, if not two other, blue servers with just the people that have quit because of stale content progression and a cockblocked raid scene. Just opening a new server...

Yes, I imagine that would be the most challenging aspect of the deal. They would need to double their cs staff and good volunteers are hard to find. Still, I hope they decide it's worth the effort to do so. I personally think it would be well worth it, but then I'm not the one doing the work...

Project 1999 - Making Norrath Great Again

There are so many good reasons for implementing a server like this. I can't imagine why they wouldn't. Even without an influx of people from a Velious launch, just the current numbers plus those who would come back for a fresh server would be enough to support a healthy but not overcrowded...

Project 1999 - Making Norrath Great Again

Have they ever discussed opening a new pve server? I recently started again after having quit way back when the server first opened and man it is crowded. Not just named spawns, but lots of good exp spots too. When they open Velious I'm sure it will instantly become even more crowded. It...

If his gamedoeslook like WoW, it means he has learned nothing from the mistakes of numerous other copycat failures before this, and in that case I would be confident enough to stake money on his failure. I've said it before and I'll say it again- the next "successful" (tm) fantasy mmo needs...

In early TZ there was the same 'code'. I moved to SZ when it opened and the only code there was kill or be killed.

    EQ Never

Anti-zerging measures should be built into the game as naturally and seamlessly as possible, as opposed to being addressed by hard mechanics such as strict time limits and raid number limits. This goes for just about every "solution" to typical mmo problems. Make itpracticallydifficult...

Can't agree more. I really can't emphasize enough how amazing EQs sounds were. Not just the music, but everything- ambient/environment (that hollow wind sound with the strange bird cries), footsteps, mob sounds, fighting sounds. One of the best was spell sounds. In EQ when you cast a spell...

So you would go cleric or shammy over druid or pally even?
  17. Arden

Project 1999 - Making Norrath Great Again

Yep, I've heard Pallys and chanters make a good duo. My friend has a 46 pally so I think the plan is to level a shammy and chanter from 1 to 46 then reassess if we want to continue with that combo or switch the shammy for the pally

Reason I ask is because my bud has a 60 druid and I'm trying to earn a little cash to buy gear to equip a chanter for myself. Going to duo the chanter with my friend up through the levels. Two follow up questions: first, any recommendations for a partner with the chanter? Druid would be my...

Vanguard - I don't give a fuck if it's dead, It's still brown as fuck (Download link in 1st post)

"Could easily have fixed" is a relative term. I can't speak for what happened after Sigil sold the IP, but prior to that the only resource management was willing (or able depending on how you want to look at it) to allocate for PVP was one programmer- part time. We only got that programmer...

Only watched a few vids. This looks really cool. Unfortunately I have serious questions as to if this could ever create a mmo that had any significant depth. Looks better at creating junior RPGs, 3D jumpers, and side scrollers. I could be totally wrong- I'm sure I haven't seen the entire...

Don't buy it. I see where he's coming from, but if this was true, I'd be looking for turtle shells, mushrooms, and fire breathing plants in every game I played. EQ Never

I could be wrong but I remember starting an Erudite necro in vanilla EQ and if I wasn't thrust immediately into darkness I was thrust into it pretty quick. In early EQ Erudite Necros had a trainer in the middle of Tox forest. If it was night when you generated your character, it was pretty...

I'll let someone else pull out the statistics, but I think your view is overly optimistic. We could argue about the definition of "failure" all day, I suppose. There are catastrophic failures, like 38 Studios, and then there are slow, lingering failures. I suppose if you want to set the bar...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

For every thousand strikes at the leaves of evil, there is but one strike at the root. This is the root of many of the mmo industry's woes- sustainability (or lack thereof). People often cite the "leaves" of failed mmos- incomplete content, lack of polish, half-baked mechanics, and inability...

What Made EQ Great? Tell your stories to a filthy casual

It's funny, I started in 99 on a pvp server and it was pretty standard practice to ask before inspecting. When I moved to a pve server people thought I was bizarre for asking to inspect, but it was habit by then. A lot of pve people didn't realize that randomly inspecting someone in early EQ...

Sorry to double post, but I want to make this clear. I don't mean to deify EQs game designers. They had their faults like everyone else and they made their fair share of mistakes. But to dismiss the entire game as luck and coincidence is just foolish.

No doubt luck played a role in EQ- it plays a role in any great game. Lots of stars have to align for something like that to happen. It's also true that a fair amount of experimentation went into the game's creation. Frankly, the 'balls' I'm talking about largely have to do with the...
