Good idea. Along with that some sort of find / summon corpse item that could be crafted. I know a lot of people hate looking for their corpse and it is a controversial play mechanic. But when it was taken out of EQ a huge part of the sense of danger died.

Of course, that goes without saying. I think everyone who is asking, wants a EQ1 clone that is a full fledged mmo with the old school rules and the new school look. Which you see as being impossible. Personally, I would rather just have the sense of danger EQ1 had, some of the classes...

All of which get easier to use every year and require less manpower. That was my original point. I can see the path to a EQ1 clone but the cliffs you need to navigate to climb that mountain I see as very improbable, and you see as impossible.

    EQ Never

Yep, I agree Draegan. And the reasons you gave against are exactly the reasons why investors have refused to back even the possibility of a EQ1 clone. Whatever market there is is too niche in their eyes, and they want to maximise their return. And that is why I have continued to say that any...

    EQ Never

First off, the point of my original post was that I don't see EQ1 being redone anytime soon, if ever. The two possibities I listed are it's only hope imo. And they are very dim hopes. But if someone wanted to hang their hat on those hopes then by just looking at the graph Mughal linked you...

    EQ Never

Lol, true. But given the humoungous size of the internet population now, you still have young neckbeards willing to play EQ1 with modern graphics in huge numbers. But it is still too niche a market to ever convince the money guys to go for it. There is only 2 ways I see EQ1 being redone...

    EQ Never

There are a whole lot more neckbeards on the interwebs now than there were in 1998. So in qwerty's defense there probably is a niche market for a EQ remake with modern graphics. BUT.. You will never convince the money guys to go for it. Like it or not, the cold truth is that investors care...

    Lord of the Rings Online

Hmm, could be. I always just buy the skill with tp asap on my alts. Getting around without a horse all the way to level 20 is a lot of loooong walks. Usually only takes a few hours to earn the tp on a new toon.
  9. Grim1

    Lord of the Rings Online

Riding skill costs 95 tp and a horse is 500 siver. Both of which are easy to earn in game. Doing deeds gives you 5 to 20 tp each. Stuff like killing 60 wolves etc. You can get the horse at level 5 if you buy the skill, you have to wait to level 20 if you are subbed and just want to do the quest.

    Guild Wars 2

Lol, that was an epic post of marketing pablum bs. Looks like they will not be implementing the most important feature for PvE, default overflow for all zones. Guesting will not help players stuck on servers with empty zones. So if you better transfer off now before they force you to pay for it.

Are you a gaming dev? If you are, then are you willing to tell us what you are working on? What is your vision for the game? What do you promise to deliver? When are you delivering it? etc, etc, etc. Are you willing to take the withering critisism when your game isn't what you promised...

    EQ Never

I'm sure he saw it differently. His "vision" wasn't implemented perfectly and he got burned for it. But no game ever matched the initial vision. The same is true of every creative endeavor. Reality always changes the end product. Brad's biggest mistake was being naive enough to think the the...

    EQ Never

I'm curious, does anyone actually think that Devs see any upside to commenting in public threads? What could they possibly say that wont be taken out of context and used against them in the future? Other than the most general marketing pablum that is... and even that would be ripped apart...
  14. Grim1

    EQ Never

Not defending Curt or Brad here, but after the way most of the people on FoH turned on them like a pack of rabid dogs, I imagine most Devs are leary of ever opening themselves up to that. Gaming Devs have a different perspective on the business and the failure of Curt's endeavour. They don't see...

    EQ Never

One of the most important things missing from your list is real danger. In EQ it was possible to lose all of your gear and levels, it was pretty hard to do but it was possible. Real danger is almost nonexistant in modern mmos. Eve has it in a fashion, but other than that all mmo's (and even...

Lol, you were the one claiming that everyone hates EQ. I was just refuting your idiocy. If you want to join the conversation, how about you try some intelligence and throw away the hyperbole and lies.

    Well, now what?

    ..and Pandas.
  18. Grim1

    EQ Never

True, but EQ evolved along with the industry. The modern version of EQ is nothing like the original, and hasn't been for a very long time. EQ up to and including Velious seems to be the consensus version that most have enshrined in rose colored memory. I personally liked some of the things in...

    EQ Never

Hyperbole much? Most people have fond memories of EQ and miss many of the things you talk about. I really miss old school pulling, open world dungeon crawls, old school enchanters, etc. As do most of us. I think most of us also agree that some of EQ's harsh systems could be successful in a...

Oh come on. I didn't say I didn't like it. I said there wasn't any where else to go. Reading comprehension ftw. edit: and yes farm mode was BORING. So I, like almost everyone else in end game raiding guilds, had a lot of "deaths in the family" breaks back then.

I played everquest for years, almost 4 years played on my SK alone, and that was before level 75 was max level. Everyone did, we didn't have a choice, until WoW came along. EQ and WoW (and a couple other minor mmos) were the only games around for a long time, so of course people played them for...

There aren't enough devs nor enough money to create the amount of content you are looking for in just one game. It isn't realistic to ask for it. Just consider all mmo's together as one giant mmo and then you have your answer. edit: Some sort of link between separate mmo's that allowed...

Lol, that's funny considering that I'm probably older than 99 percent of the people on this site. Having been around the block a few times, and all the other blocks nearby, we old folks like to see new sights. The point of my "rant" is that I like to play a bunch of mmo's. I don't leave them...

    EQ Never

They use to but that ship has sailed. Again, there were very few choices when WoW came out. But now there are so many mmo's out that the modern player jumps from mmo to mmo every couple of months. That is the industry norm and it isn't going to change. Developing for the old model is guaranteed...

F2P is also great for players who like to jump around from game to game every few days. Variety being the spice and all that. If I subbed to every game I log into every month it would pay for a new truck. There are so many games out now and most of them have something fun to do. Playing just...

    Guild Wars 2

Dungeon crawls in non-instanced dungeons are fun. The content can have infinite variable outcomes, even with the most basic mob ai, because the players determine the environment. When multiple groups are crawling through a non-instanced dungeon all kinds of hilarity can and does happen...

    Guild Wars 2

The reason Tuco called dungeons "too gimicky" is because they are easy and stupid (at least that is how I read it). GW2 has some depth to the combat with combos, etc. The problem is that there isnt' any need to use it. Every dungeon, event and any other encounter doesn't require any skill...

    Guild Wars 2

The problem with GW2's PvE is it is just too fucking easy and there are no rewards. RISK / REWARD Somebody tatoo that on every fucking mmo dev's forehead. And then make sure they brush their teeth every morning. Idiot loser mmo devs get lost in mindless stuff like gear repair, crafting...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Perhaps initially, but WoW raids evolved into to this mind numbingly boring hoop jumping contest where raid members have to program all their robotic moves and perform them perfectly or risk destroying the event for everyone else. EQ raids mobs were not nearly as complicated and allowed for...

    Guild Wars 2

If you just do the hearts in each zone of your race then you get more than enough xp to level. You don't even have to do the storyline or travel to other races zones. There is absolutely no need to camp a single event. Putting the events on the map is a good idea though. The chest issue I...

Assuming you didn't bot or buy gold, then send in a ticket and post on the forums. Same thing happened to me a few weeks into the game. It was a very frustrating experience getting my account back. Took about 10 days of sending in tickets and posting on their forums. They eventually acknowledged...

    Guild Wars 2

Most mmo's are successful from a business standpoint. They may not be printing money like WoW does but they are still extremely lucrative for the businesses involved. Success from a gamer's perspective is totally subjective. I personally think WoW is a failure as a game. It's old, hackneyed...

    Guild Wars 2

They are kind of funny in a pathetic sort of way. I can see the hate train on SWTOR, it had (has) some serious issues outside of the storylines. But the GW2 hate is reaching imo. It's not the perfect game, far from it. But it is very solid and better than most. My question for Swagdaddy and...

    Guild Wars 2

Making overflow the default for pve zones would help a lot. There are plenty of people still playing the game but they are too spread out across the servers to trigger the massive events that were so much fun at release. So leveling alts is pretty lonely atm, and a bit boring. They have the...

    Lord of the Rings Online

I enjoyed Lotro for a few months a couple of years ago. Nice casual game with a great community. The only thing lacking imo was decent pvp, which is true of most mmos. Think I'll download this and check it out again. Not playing much of anything atm, this should be fun for a bit.
  38. Grim1

    Well, now what?

I was in The Secret World closed beta. Another game that was fun for all of 6 weeks.. They at least tried to be different though. Have to give them props for that.
  39. Grim1

    Well, now what?

What mmo is worth playing? Really. The trolls will all jump up and down and make fun of people for playing AoC, SWTOR or GW2 for a couple months but they never mention what mmos are good. SWTOR sucked but it was fun for a few short weeks until you hit the endgame. The same can be said of all...

Still on the fence about this. It sounds good but hype is cheap. Keep us updated, if you all like it then I'll give it a shot.
