Chanur nailed it really. Depp is pigeonholed as, well, Depp. And Norton can definitely be a pain to work with (I haven't personally, but I work in the industry and this seems to be the consensus).

Is there much of a population for this game? It was one I always wanted to be successful. What is it like for a brand-new player? Are most people at the max level or are there good populations across the levels?

I agree in most cases. I think if you can't play the emulated version on a proper television-size screen, that can leave something to be desired. Also you need a gamepad that feels good (XBOX 360 USB controller is where it's at IMO).

I don't like to scapegoat for Na`Vi or anything but you only really see them play at top form when there is a lot of money or prestige on the line.

I think most players hover within 5% of 50% W/L ratio. Also to the dude who posted the losing streak - if you want to win more, random less and pick better heroes that your team composition actually needs. If you are randoming, you probably shouldn't care that much about winning.
