honestly if Lincoln wins best picture over Django, then the voters are clueless. Lincoln was created solely for the purpose of garnering Oscar votes and literally brought nothing to the table other than fantastic scenery/makeup.

Silver Linings Playbook is nominated in every major category.

I didnt even hear about it until i saw this list.

Skyfall will win best original song for sure. Has a bond film ever won ANY oscars?

Silver Linings Playbook is amazing. I didn't see many movies this year so I can't really compare it to the others but I think it's worthy of all the nominations it got.

wow. that hack seth macfarlane is hosting?
i think you might be the only person in america to have this impression of him.

family guy & ted don't make the cut?

edit: not to mention that his musical talent is worthy enough for an oscar nomination for a song from Ted

As far as I can tell, two films have won Oscars.

Goldfinger (1964)

Thunderball (1965)

I hate the bloated Best Picture category nowadays. Adding more films doesn't make it any more exciting or interesting. Hell, I can guarantee that Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty stand absolutely zero chance of winning against a film like Lincoln. Why are they even put into the category?

Zero Dark Thirty has a greater than zero chance of winning. Note the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review already awarded it their best picture prizes.

Spielberg and DDL have already won their share of Oscars. Lincoln isn't going to win much this year, I think

I think its Tarantino's turn this year

While it's nice to win Best Picture, history has shown that previous Best Pictures have been anything but in certain situations. Prime example: Shakespeare in Love winning over Saving Private Ryan. That was probably one of the biggest "wtf" wins in Oscar history.

I don't see Django having a chance at the Best Picture, due to the nature of the film. Otherwise, the only award Tarantino is nominated for is Original Screenplay, which I think he has a good chance at winning. I really don't see anyone but DDL winning Best Actor.

So glad to see Beast of the Southern get all these nominations. Pissed me off that a lot of other awards snubbed them despite it being better than 3/4ths the other nominated films...

They expanded the Best Picture nominations, from just 5 to a range of 5-10 after The Dark Knight was snubbed, simply on the merits of it being a comic book movie. There was public outrage and the Academy folded and expanded the field to allow for film types in all genre's.

So this year, the people who run the Academy made the jump to using an online system for submitting votes. Ya, they decided to implement 13 year old technology... Here is the thing, the geezers that actually get to cast votes on this shit are so old that they couldn't even figure out how to log in, let alone cast their votes. Everything got delayed this year.

So yes, it is official. If you pay attention to the Oscars, you are letting 70 and 80 year olds, who can't even check their own email, tell you what the best entertainment was for the year. It is all such a sham.

DDL won it twice already, the most recent one being only 5 years ago.

Hugh Jackman is taking this one I think. Les Miserables is artsy enough for their tastes and he's had good roles that he didnt win anything for (The Prestige)

DiCaprio not getting a nod for Django is typical. Guess he needs to make Titanic 2: The Titanic'ing.

SLP is a very good movie, but the nominations for it are utter bullshit.
