Anybody else watching? The wife and I are huge Olympics fans so we watch everything related. Men's gymnastics tonight was good. Swimming is tomorrow. Excited to see Phelps compete after reading about everything he's gone through.

So how much of the Russian team is disqualified? And with the host country saying they can't guarantee anyone's safety, is this Olympics just going to be a shitfest?

I feel bad for the athletes, to be honest. Most sports you have a very narrow window to try for a gold age wise and now one of the few or perhaps the only chance for some of them is going to be a giant clusterfuck. Which, EVEN IF everything goes as planned AND you win, your Olympics will have a nice little * next to it as the one where a bunch of people didn't show up or got sick or some stuff didn't work properly.

Just doesn't seem like this one should even happen, to be honest.

Excited to see Phelps swim the 200m fly tonight. He looked dominant in the semifinal and autopiloted to the 6th fastest time this year. I'm going to miss watching him swim.

Rio 2016: Every Russian athlete except Darya Klishina and Yuliya Stepanova rejected from competing at Olympics | Olympics | Sport | The Independent

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has rejected every Russian athlete except Darya Klishina and Yuliya Stepanova from participating in international competitions.

But none of the country's 136 other athletes that applied for "exceptional eligibility" were accepted, following the Russian athletics federation's ban from international competition. Two-time Olympic gold medalist pole vaulter Yelena Isinbaeva is among those turned away.

Live feed of the WADA report on Russian doping in the last winter Olympics, or as one commentator puts it "If you're not following Richard McLaren's press conference, basically everything NY Times wrote in May about Russian doping was true."

McLaren confirms that positive tests "in every sports discipline" were passed to the Deputy Minister of Sport, Yuri Nagornykh. McLaren adds that Nagornykh "decided who would benefit from a cover up and who would not be protected."

McLaren: "the system was set up following the 2010 Olympics, and was in place until 2014. It allowed the transformation of a positive result to a negative one, overseen by the Deputy Minister of Sport. The Ministry of Sport, Rusada and the FSB were involved in this process".

etc. etc.

I can't wait for this catastrophe to start. Olympic village is uninhabitable with plumbing leaking down the walls around electrical wiring.

The russians doping team is cleared to compete lol

On the former, it always seems like that before the olympics but then it gets patched together at the last minute. We will see.

On the latter, just lol. IOC cowardly as fuck.
