What is your biggest disappointment when it comes video games?

Mine would have to be Starcraft 2. The original is probably my most played game of all time. For a solid 7 years it was a game I played pretty much once a day. I didnt care at all for competitive play, I exclusively played custom maps; tower defenses, madness maps, good v evil, avp etc. I fucking loved custom maps. I remember when I discovered DOTA in WC3 I specifically went out and bought wc3 just for DOTA.

First was god awful single player campaign. So disjointed and had quite possibly one of the laziest plot twists ever(ray charles saw could of seen tychus was a bad guy).

Second was the fact Blizzard/Activation became greedy fucking assholes and decided to break it into 3 games.

Third and most importantly of course, the absolute abortion that was bnet 2.0 and the overall multiplayer
experience for SC2. Want to try out a new map? Good luck because if it isnt in the top 5 no one is going to play it. Want to talk to people and get info a new map? Lol fuck you no chat feature at launch. Want to have some control over a game and set rules or give info before it starts? Lol fuck you games start automatically.

Waste of 2+ years waiting for this game. Such a disappointment. When HoTS and LoV were announced I did just not care at all.

Age of Conan would probably still be my highest. Amazing experience for the first zone for the beta and then release, everything after looked like it was thrown together in a week. RIP Funcom.

Starcraft 2 has eventually become good and well, there isn't any competition. Co-op in LotV is amazing.

I think I was eventually disappointed by Guildwars 2, the game looks and sounds fucking amazing, however it has possibly the least satisfying combat and character development/customization I have seen in an MMO. Everything feels so superficial. I generally don't buy games before like GotY edition or something, so it's hard to be disappointed, but Shadowrun installments have been rather underwhelming, even though it should be right up my alley. The game is not enough on rails that you should care about maxing your characters, but it simultaneously feels like there's never enough space for it to matter.

This year I was disappointed in Fallout 4. No Man's Sky. Doom as well which I know got its knob gobbled here for some reason. Home front.

Overall, shit, I try and not remember terrible games. I don't invest much in them if they aren't good they get gamefly'd and sent back so fast it doesn't matter.

Duke Nukem whatever it was that finally came out was pretty bad. Can't recall anything else off hand.

I guess Guild Wars 2 probably. Hearing about the game being made I picked up GW1 with all the expansions because I only had played some trial or whatever back when it released and didn't like it too much, and fell in love with the game, although it wasn't really mmo-ish and more like really cool single player game with an online mode, the way I played it. Still fun shit. Then I got invited into GW2 alpha and had some fun but hoped for much much bigger things, and then it released and I just didn't play it much. And patches were disapointing, and then 2years later or whatever they released the expansion and that was also disapointing. It's not a bad game I'd say, just not a fan of it, but the disapointment comes from how much I liked GW1 and how GW2 is really nothing like it in any regards.

Other than that can't really think of one. Zelda 2 maybe I guess but I don't know if I was disapointed, I still ended up clearing the game.

Since internet though it's harder to get disapointed imo cause almost everything I either play before, or can watch extensive gameplay and with all the games I have in my backlog I only pick stuff I know I'll like anyway, the gambles are rare so the disapointments are also rare. Helps that I rarely get too hyped about games anymore before they release unless it's something I'm pretty certain I'll like. Or it's something that I know won't be the best ever but still fun enough, like say, Final Fantasy, so I enjoy it, or not, but I'm not disapointed cause I didn't expect that much anyway.

Firefall. Amazing foundation and design philosophy in beta with a non level based power progression that was great because you felt the power increases; you ran faster, jumped higher, hit harder. Cool concept and story with the melding and the villains were mysterious as well as sinister and a bit scary in the game. Then 1.0 hits and they did one of the most soul crushing 180's I have ever seen in my life. New levels based progression, the gutting of crafting and resource gathering, removal of several amazing items and abilities, voice chat, some mechanics and even zones. I really enjoyed closed and open beta and the teams stated direction.....then they just completely shit the bed. Undid everything they had done in a fountain of bilious diarrhea. And nothing else I have played has come close to what they had in beta.

Diablo 3. Far and away. I loved D2. D3 announcement had my so hyped. Every bit of news was more and more disappointing. when it finally came out, I was already off the fence, and wasn't going to buy it. but, friends all bought in to the hype, and were talking it up nonstop, despite early problems. I caved inside a week or so. and instantly regretted it. Actually playing was even worse then my expectations. Graphics were shit, gameplay was a mess, game design just totally ass backwards for an ARPG, and the story/dialogue...

Sure there are games that fail to meet expectations, things like Starbound which is bleh. GW2 which could have/should have been better. Aimed high, and result is ok, not great. D3 however, is one of only 2 where, I want my money back you son of a bitches, and you should be ashamed of using that name for this piece of shit.

I seem to recall playing EQ2 for a few weeks back in 2006ish (?). Stopped playing for a month or so, then came back and the game had totally changed.

Does that sound right?
