Chris Hadfield, former Canadian astronaut and Navy Pilot started writing cold war spy fiction. It incorporates his knowledge of fighters (he was a test pilot before joining NASA) and they are pretty good reads. His latest 'Final Orbit' just came out this week. I've read the first two and they are worth a look.
