I saw it as pruning old abilities similar to new expansion overhauls of combat jobs. Gathering has always been lackluster and the most botted activity by actual players.

I was surprised they announced Quick Gathering, just because of the botting potential, same with the pruning of crafting additionals, although the latter weren't really accomplishing a whole lot with the introduction of Careful Synth III and friends. I'm really hoping they do a lot of pruning for gatherers especially. Too many buttons, and The Giving Land pretty much murders all the X's Ward abilities for elemental shard/crystal/cluster yields.

Improving quick synth success rate is needed. Stupid as hell you can have the fail rate you do on stuff you can just macro Careful Synth 3 twice to make every time.

I hope the crafting changes are just pruning of old abilities that aren't needed anymore. It's already been made so much easier.

Crafting does have a lot of button bloat...there are tons of abilities that you might use while leveling up, then promptly abandon once you get a better replacement. I could also see them rolling more cross-class abilities into core crafting abilities to reduce the need to omnicraft. Plus, with the nerfing of specialist abilities, I could see them heavily gutting or doing away with that as well.

Yeah, I'm still baffled why specialists were completely under the radar this expansion. Delicate Synthesis and Reuse alone are practically Specialist abilities, Reuse almost by definition (because specialists are better at their craft, or something). Plus, Delicate Synthesis makes Preparatory Touch almost obsolete, and it does make Trained Hand obsolete by virtue of being on-demand versus condition.

If they want to keep specialist crafters in, imo they really should change the Soul of the Crafter "job crystals" to scale in the way that the Aetheryte Earrings do. +X Craft +Y Control based on your level, done.

I'm curious what they're going to do to Bacon Broth and Tinker's Calm if desynthesis is going to be changed to eliminate the skill level, but if it will still have failure chance then nevermind.

Yeah like old resist potions and shit they'll turn into vendor items. I have a bunch crafted in advance but if they become worthless I'm not gonna cry over it if it means desynth isn't a piece of shit money vortex anymore.

Specialists definitely should be getting new skills, or their existing skills should be made stronger. You can get harder crafts more easily with specialist(mostly by starting with the buff thing and then consuming it for 3stacks of inner quiet right away) but it feels bad. Part of the problem is all crafting nowadays is done via macros and a lot of the specialist stuff is for manual crafting, have to fish for procs and use whistle at specific times and what not.

Overall I'm not too worried, even if they simplify crafting. Ultimately crafting is only complicated when you're new, once you get how it works, it becomes pretty simple, and at various levels there's like "one way" to craft efficiently with few variations and virtually everything else is useless. If they start cutting a bunch of abilities it probably won't make too much of a difference, and a lot are just buttons to press. It can be fun trying to figure out the puzzles to get your macros going, but with Teamcraft it's really not that hard.

Anyway will be resubbing for 5.1 so I can level my BLU and do the BLU content with other people before it becomes abandonned again, so I'll get to check out all the new stuff right away instead of in 5.4 as usual. Don't think there's any other big game to play until next year for me anyway(Cyberpunk, FFVII and MHW Iceborne).

Disagree with this. Delicate is great for prepping progress to be finished while still raising quality some and building IQ stacks, but Prep Touch is by no means obsolete because of it. Prep is used to be the big quality jumps and to raise IQ stacks by 2 at a time. Once control gets to the point where we're getting the +3k cap at lower stacks of IQ as time goes on, too, we might end up needing more Prep touches to make up for Byregot's effect getting reduced slowly over time.

Finally finished all of ARR. Man, shit gets real in those last couple of missions!

So I'm level 57 on my Summoner going into HW. Should I switch to another job or just keep going, even if I'm outleveling the story stuff by a large margin?

You would rather outlevel the story than under level it and get blocked.

Focus on one 80 first

The most optimal alt leveling is potd or some other mind numbing activity. Don't torture yourself until you're looking for content. Enjoy the premium front content they hand you and when you run out of that then you can bust yourself in the balls.

I was ahead of the curve on content from they very beginning. Especially with the earring and such for prepurchase. I got to 74 and... couldnt progress in the story without grinding (just a bit). Nothing major, but it did put the breaks on the story a few nights. However, I didnt do any lore quests (brown quests w/e) and only did blue and MSQ ones. Now though? Im using the brown quests to level when Im bored of POTD or dungeon spam. So it worked out.

Everyone who hasn’t taken a char to max level yet should, for this xpac, because you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t experience all of shadowbringers esp the ending. I mean all those boring ass story elements you plodded thru arr, and on and off again from 50-70, will be made up for and thensome

Exactly, I'd play the game as a super long RPG first then go into alts and such.

Think of it like SWTOR but at the end you actually have stuff to do and game isn't aids

If you are going through ARR, or in general, make sure to do the Crystal Tower raid series before Shadowbringers. You'll get a lot more out of the story and also get special options only available to people who finished the raid story.

Finally discovered Sector 8, and sent my Airship there last night, 1 day and 10+ hours trip, so should it should return Saturday and we'll be able to get our second Airship. We're halfway through building our first Submarine, we've been kind of lazy, busy doing other stuff this week, so it's been slow.

Also got Rank 25, so we unlocked the Diadem(sp?). We went there, no clue what to do. It looks like it could have been interesting but it's empty and don't think it's duoble. I did find a bunch of chest though. I'll probably at least try to get the minion and mount if possible. :)

I got the Gunbreaker to 70, much more fun with Continuation, it flows so much better now in my opinion. Paladin is 74, or 75 I forgot...I think I may switch to Gunbreaker as main for tank. I like the rotation better, but I prefer the defensive cooldowns on the Paladin although on normal content it doesn't seem to matter much, still survive tankbusters without a defensive cooldown.

My friend and I are about 20M Gil together without really trying, still 30M to go to get a Mansion if one ever becomes available. :)

Got all Beast Tribes in Heavensward to max, working on the ARR ones. I kinda enjoy the stories for most of them. Can't wait for the Fairies in 5.1.

I got over 1K venture coins for the first time, I don't have to stress about it anymore. I have 9 retainers, but only 6 with class leveled to 80, may level the other 3 now since I have so many venture coins and getting them regularly now.

My friend and I had started a tank/healer combo about a month back but stopped around 38, we just can't find time to play them as we are so busy with other stuff which is my eternal complaint about the game, I don't have enough time to do all that I want. :)

Gil is for glamour. Every major patch you got 3 days or less to find what you can make millions from and capitalize before it bottoms out.

Gil is for housing and glamour. You'll need between 50-60m for a mansion (keep in mind also that after you buy the plot, to build the actual house costs 3m, although you have 45 days to do that if the plot literally takes every coin you have). Then you got to furnish it, which is expensive if you aren't an omnicrafter.
