FoH ForumQuest Patch Notes

Just in time for Shitpost Saturday, I’m proud to unveil a slew of new additions and changes to FoH. I’ve been working on them for some time, and I think they will be a fun thing for everyone to play with once everyone has a chance to look it all over and play around with the various new features.

Donations

First of all, the way donations work is changing. Up to now, there have been 2 levels of donation status available to people: donor, and super donor. That is now changing to 4 levels:

Donor: anyone who donates $5 up to $20 over the course of 1 year.

Bronze Donor: anyone who donates from $20 up to $50 over the course of 1 year.

Silver Donor: anyone who donates from $50 up to $100 over the course of 1 year.

Gold Donor: anyone who donates $100 or more over the course of 1 year.

What do these levels of donations get you? This has never been laid out before, because there was nothing we had to really offer people other than fancier reactions and a pretty color for your usergroup. Now, we’re offering a lot more for your donation.

Items and Currency

Each donation level opens up a new kind of currency that you will use to buy items that have different effects.

Heaven Points: HP for short. This currency allows you to buy reactions other than basic reactions. (IE: animated reactions are non-basic reactions). When you donate up to each level, you are rewarded with a set amount of HP that you can then spend on reactions over the course of a year, or until you exhaust your supply of HP. The amount of HP you get for donations is as follows:

$5
1,610 Heaven Points
$20
7,000 Heaven Points
$50
18,200 Heaven Points
$100
36,100 Heaven Points

The costs of the various reactions are listed later in this post.

Soybucks: This currency is used to purchase cosmetic items and is available to be earned at the bronze donor level and above. Once you reach bronze donor level, you will start receiving a daily paycheck of Soybucks of 120. This equates to 15/hr on an 8 hr day. There are also other ways to earn Soybucks, but those ways will have to be figured out by the users.

On advice from Soygen Soygen , Soybucks should have McQuaid’s face on the currency and fluctuate in value based on happenings in Pantheon. Sadly that isn’t possible due to granularity issues. Instead, I have put his face on many of the items you can buy with Soybucks. I think that works in the spirit of what Soygen was recommending and taking into consideration the granularity limitations I mentioned. As for the items themselves, everyone at a donor level or higher should be able to check them out in the shop and see what they do.

Filthy Lucre: This currency becomes available at silver donor level and above. This currency is more valuable than Soybucks, so you only get 80 Filthy Lucre/day in your paycheck. This currency is used to purchase items that increase your chance to successfully steal currency from other users, and items that increase the amount stolen when successful. Only Filthy Lucre is used to purchase tools to assist you in such nefarious ends. Be careful though, if you are unsuccessful in your attempt at theft, you will lose a % of your currency.

If you’re worried about all of your currency being stolen, there are some immunity items you can purchase to prevent it, and any currency that you put in the bank is protected from theft. Be sure to check all your currency every day to make sure it gets banked if you’re worried about thieves!

Tucobucks: This currency becomes available at gold donor level. This currency is used to purchase items that perform certain mod actions of a Tuco Tuco -like persuasion. Specifically: short threadbans and short stints in the Rickshaw short stints with restricted posting privileges. Tucobucks are paid out at 40/day and the items that can be purchased with Tucobucks are of a very limited supply and a very high cost due to the nature of the items.

There will be other ways to earn Tucobucks besides a paycheck, but people will have to figure those ways out for themselves. (NOTE: I wanted to have Tucobucks always be a negative number, but I was again thwarted by granularity issues.)

Internet Quotient Points: IQ for short. This currency is just for fun. It can’t be stolen. It can’t be given away or traded. Everyone starts out with 100 IQ. The methods for gaining and losing IQ are hidden, but if you’ve got a lot of IQ maybe you’ll be able to figure it out!

Items: There’s a good population of items in the shop to start with, but new items may be added over time as they are warranted or desired.

Reaction Changes

After the change over to XenForo2.1, the reaction system was changed a bit. We lost some functionality and we’re still working on some of the display issues, but the main thing we gained is we can now assign a number value +/- to any reaction. I was worried about adding negative numbers back to the system, so up to now I’ve had things weighted with certain reactions being worth 0, 1, 2, and even a few worth 3 reaction score points. I thought that people would figure this out right after we fixed the reaction score indicator in people’s postbit(the place below your avatar when you post), but no one really picked up on what the weights were. Admins- 1, forum autists- 0 on that one.

That said, based upon these new changes and several requests from people:

NEGS ARE BACK

That’s right, you can now neg people once again with certain reactions. The catch is if you want to neg people, it’s going to cost you. I call it the Asshole Tax, if you want to be an asshole, you gotta pay the piper.

So with that in mind, the main question is: what does it all cost? Well, basic reactions such as Like, Picard, and Worf cost 0HP and are available to all registered users who are not in a banned state just like they’ve always been. They are also all either worth 0 reaction score, or 1 point of reaction score.

For the animated reactions we all know and love, here’s the cost of the various reactions laid out in a table:

Reaction:Score Value:HP cost:Reaction:Score Value:HP cost:

All animated reactions not listed there will cost 3HP and be worth 0 reaction score, since they are quasi-negs or “content negs” such as Eyeroll. They are not outright negs though, so in an effort to not quash people’s posting habits and opinions by giving out negative reactions when they really mean those reactions to be neutral or an honest assessment of someone’s post without impacting their reaction score, I’ve assigned them a neutral reaction score weighting of 0.

I’m sure you’ve noticed 3 new reactions at the end of the table there. I needed some reaction to serve as an outright neg that isn’t really expressing anything other than “I’m negging this post.” That’s where the
GreNeg.gif
GreNeg comes in. Blow away those points with the GreNeg!

The
ViaGralis.gif
ViaGralis Reaction is for you to raise someone’s… status… with 1,000 points all at once. This might be a rarely used reaction, or maybe not. Only time and worthy posts will tell. I needed a positive counterpart to the following reaction…

BEHOLD, the
MegaNeg.gif
MegaNeg! Just picture 1,000 of your reaction score points, riding on that little airliner, fat dumb and happy. Then BOOM MegaNeg out of nowhere! Farewell little points, if only I had known ye longer, *sniff*. The downside is this is very expensive, so be sure that the victim is worth the price.

One caveat with reactions and HP: To prevent people from going back and unreacting to lots of old posts in order to gain back HP and re-use it on newer posts, you cannot ‘sell back’ reactions for full HP cost. It will cost you a portion of HP every time you unreact or change your reaction when you use a reaction that costs HP, so be very careful and deliberate with your clicks!

So, with the Heaven Points you get from donating, you are faced with some choices to make. If you want to use the positive reactions worth 2 and 4HP, your points should last quite a while. If you want to neg people a lot, it’s going to burn through your points much faster. I’ve set up the amount of points you get so that if you donate $20, you get a lot of points to play with and your HP should last you a long time even if you use a lot of reactions.

If you run out of HP, you also have the option to purchase Heaven Points directly using PayPal with the ‘purchase’ option when you click on the Heaven Points currency in the shop tab.

The Transition

We’re going to a new system, but I don’t want to shortchange the contributions people have made in the past. In light of that, I’m going back through the donation list, and pro-rating an amount of HP to anyone who donated over $5 during the last yearly donation cycle. Based upon the amount you donated and when you donated you’ll get some HP for you to start out with. You’ll also go to the bronze donor group and start earning Soybucks. If you donated $5 within the last donation cycle, you’re currently in the <donors crew> group and everyone in that category is getting reset with the new donation cycle. To get the new privileges you’ll have to donate again. Also, the Super Donor group is becoming the group for Gold Donor and everyone in it is being placed in the bronze donor group.

I appreciate all of people’s contributions before this point in time, but with a new system and new rewards and a new year of site-related things to pay for, I thought it was best to put everyone on a relatively even playing field to start out.

The Future

As we go forward with these new features cosmetic changes may be made such as what icons are used and where they show up and new items may be added over time, but the nuts and bolts of how things work will be like I laid out above. There are also more features I have in mind that aren’t quite ready yet that will be become available as they are made ready. I will announce those new features in this thread when the time comes. Expect them very soon as I am hard at work on them!

It will take some time today to get all of this up and running, but the process is now underway.
Thanks everyone for reading, I hope these new features lead to even more engagement and more enjoyment during your time here at Fires of Heaven.
Have fun with your new toys!

Wtf I don't have money for this. This paywall is bullshit.
You had to donate to get fancier reactions before, and now your donations get you more than just reactions and user flair. If you don't want to use the new stuff, that's up to you. The functionality for people who don't donate is still exactly the same. If you do want to use the new stuff, well I guess you'll have to ask your Mom for more allowance or mow some lawns or collect some cans there, youngin.

Why u deflecting legitimate issue. This is a dumb system for obvious reasons. You should add extra way to earn points like post counts so there is a equal leveling field.

So I should be encouraging post spam? I bet you would love that with your incessant low-effort micro-trolling.

If it makes you feel better, squint your eyes just right so you only see your post count and not your reaction score.

Hey, doesn't change the fact that Lightning Lord Rule Lightning Lord Rule is incentivizing micro transactions. Say what you want but nothing will change that.

This post would've been shorter with "give me money for pixels" which totally goes against the spirit of this forum.
