******Donations

A year has passed since I asked everyone for donations to the site and the donations counter has been reset with this year’s goal. Well, actually more than a year since that was May 18th of last year and it’s now July. At the time I said everyone’s donor status would last from 1 year from that date, or the date they donated, but I’ve extended that a bit. I don’t think people will mind an extension in their favor. I’m incredibly grateful for everything everyone donated last year, thank you all very much for your continued support. To keep the site going forward though, it’s going to be a yearly process of people donating to keep the site active and independent of ad revenue. Being independent of ad revenue is important because it keeps FoH independent from the whims of those who control online advertising. In the current political climate I think it’s important to maintain independence, and your donations are what facilitate that.

That said, I like to make sure that people are getting something for their donations, so in that spirit there are some changes and additions to the site forthcoming. The main thing that’s purely donation related for this year, is that everyone who donates for this year will receive the same amount of HP as outlined in last year’s patch notes thread, but additionally they will receive an amount of 15HP every day. So in reality if you donate you’ll get quite a bit more HP for the same money over time. Have fun spending it!

******Forum Reorganization

Another thing I’ve been mulling over the last year or longer is a way to better organize the forum in a few places. Specifically, I would like to clear up the way certain parts of the forum have giant megathreads that are hard to search and that are kind of all over the place in how they like to wander in their subject matter. The solution I’ve come up with for this situation is to make subforums to help with this problem. The FoH Gun Club was the trial run for this concept, and that idea seems to be working well.

So what’s going to go where?

-One is The Pretty Girl Thread in Screenshots and all of the ancillary similar threads like Pretty Big Girl, Long Haired Girls, etc etc. All of the threads dedicated to Pr0n or Pr0n-like topics are going into their own subforum in Screenshots called “Apr0n Strings”. This is not a punishment, but an opportunity for people who want to get more… uhh… in-depth on those subjects, that they can do so easily without attracting the ire of the rest of the denizens of Screenshots, or Amod, or anyone else. Want to make a thread on a particular girl? Go for it. Want to make a thread on some other specific and related topic, go nuts! What about the FSR thread you may ask? Nothing changes about that thread, other than I’m asking everyone who posts in that thread to please use the subforum if they have content they want to post that would fit better in the “Apr0n Strings” subforum. Also, this subforum will be made available to registered users only. For all of our regular posters and lurkers this won’t be any issue. For anyone who isn’t registered, this is a great opportunity to sign up to the forum and take advantage of all the perks of being a registered user.

-The other big one is Politics in the General section, and all of the ancillary similar threads such as Euro Politics, Mike Brown, etc etc. Also, the Gamergate thread out of the Other Games section is going to live with these threads. The difference is, this won’t be a subforum of General, but more of its own section where all of these contentious topics live. This section will be available to registered members only, and eventually after an adjustment period, this new forum known as “Politics, Culture, and Controversy” (Tagline: The Bully Pol Pit) will also be only available to people who opt into a usergroup that allows them to view and post there (a thread will be made for this when the time comes). If you want to avail yourself of this section you may do so, but you must opt into it instead of passively have it available to you. All of the topics that are currently in General that are not political or contentious by their nature will be in a forum with a different name: “Off Topic”. The Travel and Product Review forums that are currently on the main page will become subforums of this newly named “Off Topic” forum. This is because of the relatively low activity in those areas which indicate they don’t need to be shown on the main page and can live happily under the Off Topic forum.

That may have been confusing to read, but the format will become obvious upon implementation, and you’re welcome to ask questions in this thread about how this is being implemented.

******Security Concerns

It has come up a couple of times recently that some people are finished with their time here and wish to be disassociated with the site. I will not be deleting content except under special circumstances to be determined on a case-by-case basis (contact me), however I still want to work with people to make sure their future security concerns are handled satisfactorily. Towards that end, for anyone who wishes to permanently leave a new account will be created with the naming convention “a_skeleton_X” where the X is a number. Then the person’s account will be merged into that skeleton account. This will eliminate the possibility of any connection between the person’s old account and this new skeleton account. Be aware however, that this action is final if requested and carried out. All of that member’s post history and achievements and currency will be gone, never to return from the Plane of Fear.

******Reactions

On a cheerier note, I’m adding quite a few new reactions. I believe it was Mario Speedwagon who suggested soon after ForumQuest 1.0 system was implemented that some reactions that have values between +/-1000 and +/-3 be added. So here we go with some reactions that are worth +/-50 and +/-100! There’s also some other reactions that I liked that were requested in the New Reactions thread, and a couple more besides that. There’s plenty of room for good ones!

SchwarzeNeg -This reaction is worth -50 reaction score and costs 500 Heaven Points. Knock those points to the ground… and the horse they rode in on!

Horowitz –This reaction is worth +50 reaction score and costs 90 Heaven Points. Give someone a pat on the back!

Neguchet –This reaction is worth -100 reaction score and costs 1000 Heaven Points. Smash those points with the Neguchet!

Splash the Pot –This reaction is worth +100 reaction score and costs 180 Heaven Points. Splash someone’s reaction score with 100 points!

Clown World – This reaction is worth -1 reaction score and costs 10 Heaven Points. Give someone what they deserve!

EdgeLord – This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to. For those who just can't help their cutting opinions.

Double Worf –This reactions is worth +4 reaction score and costs 6 Heaven Points. What’s better than 1 Worf laughing?

I Came –This reaction is worth +3 reaction score and costs 4 Heaven Points. Express your… uh, enthusiasm for someone’s post.

Scarjo WoW –This reaction is worth +1 reaction score and costs 2 Heaven Points. Due to request from the New Reactions thread… Wow!

Pathetic –This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to. I'm looking down on your post, and rightly so.

Levels of Stupid

Slightly separate from those reactions, there’s also this concept I came up with: The Levels of Stupid. Everyone loves calling other people stupid on the internet. They just do. The trouble is how stupid is someone really? Well now you can tell them! This is partially inspired by the early 20th century ‘levels of mental disability’ that had names such as Idiot and Moron that were descriptive of a condition and not just general insults as they are today.

Each reaction represents 1 level up on the stupidity hierarchy, and will be presented in order in the reaction menu.

Potato –The lowest level. You can’t go into stupidity negatives, but Potatoes just can’t help trying. This is the same reaction that's been there for a while now, with the same costs and values as before.

Imbecile –The second level of stupid, indicating someone slightly more capable than a potato. This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to.

Moron -The third level of stupid, indicating someone more capable than an imbecile, but still not aspiring to the level of merely slow. This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to.

Slow –The fourth level of stupid, indicating someone who just can’t seem to keep up. This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to.

NPC –The fifth level of stupid, this is indicative of someone with average and easily programmable intelligence levels. This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to.

Midwit –The sixth level of stupid. They’re certainly above an NPC, but they’re not nearly as smart as they think they are. This reaction is worth 0 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to.

Genius! -The seventh level of stupid. I bet you could build a suit of armor. Out of spare parts. In a cave! This reaction is worth +1 reaction score and costs 2 Heaven Points.

GalaxyBrain -The eighth level of stupid. It’s a good thing this level of brilliance is contained in your skull, imagine if it wasn’t! This reaction is worth +2 reaction score and is free for all registered users in the forums that it applies to.

******The End of IQ

Finally, we come to the Just-for-Fun currency Internet Quotient. This currency has done its job and run its course and so will be retired. The top 5 IQ people on the forum will get a medal, and so will the bottom 5 IQ people to commemorate their achievement. But what to replace it with??

I present: NACL! This stands for Null Anger Content Level. The ways to earn and lose NACL are a mystery to be solved by the users. See if you can figure out how it works!

All of these changes are currently underway and being implemented.
That’s it for this year’s Fires of Heaven ForumQuest update. Here’s to another year in the books at FoH and to another year to come!

I don't have a problem with the Groups thing but as it is now browsing on a mobile has made it somewhat of a PITA. Groups belong to their own category and aren't sub forums of specific forums. As has already been brought up in the Bugs thread this has two implications from an accessibility / quality of life view, currently.

- There is no bottom of thread navigation tree so I can quickly jump back to the parent forum.
- The group doesn't exist as a child forum of the parent, so even in the existing navigation that does exist at the top, I can only go back to "groups" and not "screenshots"

I have to continually move back to the main forum page and then go back in to screenshots to continue browsing.

The groups addon isn't being used for the 2 changes listed, they will be normal forums/subforums.

Yeah since you used the Guns Group as your example of a success I was going off that, but seeing the changes going in now it looks more correct.

You say this, but you also just said that the Politics section will eventually be turned into a group you have to join. After the Gun Club experience so far I will admit I am not a fan of the group thing. Would prefer a simple sub-section of a forum.

I'm aware we won't know until we try, but I'm going to call it now that without some even passive enforcement this one isn't going to be the success that the gun subforum has been. People don't post porn/PGT content in the FSR instead of the proper threads because they want to share porn, they do it for easy reaction farming. It's what I said before when negs were introduced, this is a forum full of gamers, and when you add numbers to that, you'll have people try for the high score regardless of what it is. On the flip side of that, any enforcement without teeth is like trying to push water uphill with a rake, and this community won't accept any enforcement in that area, let alone one with bite.

I'm aware it's by design so we don't end up like .org where the majority of users have negative reaction scores, but I kinda think the differences in costs between positive and negative reactions is a little much in my personal opinion.

Other than the above two concerns. I think these changes are great really. Good job LLR.

The passive enforcement of the Apr0n Strings subforum will be that any threads created specifically for porn will be relegated to that subforum by Amod if reported, or if/when Amod sees a thread in the wrong place.

As for FSR, well, we've all been to this fire before, so if it doesn't really change much as far as the amount of tiddies getting posted there compared to before this change it's no big deal IMO. If people start to go crazy then we might do something different, we'll see.

As for the negs cost, that can always be adjusted at some point if something starts to get out of kilter. I think it's going ok so far though, since it's been in effect for more than a year now with the same costs.
