Pretty sure I saw a tweet capture that showed JK Rowling talking about how she never described Hermione's skin color/ancestry to justify a race swap of one of the main three as well. I won't watch on account of the showrunners having never read the books.
I don't know if D&D read GoT or not, but if they didn't they did a bang up job either way.
