Maybe I just watched The Lion King too many times as a kid. You have to put your past behind you and your behind in the past!

There are a lot of people so invested in and devoted to their job that losing it is akin to the death of a loved one. I can certainly see how those people can suffer great emotional distress upon losing it. I think it just depends on how you view your job: is it just a means to make money and support your family (I think most people fall into this category), or is your entire identity wrapped up in what you do?

But yeah, if you lose your job as a line cook at Olive Garden you shouldn't stress too much over it.

Easier said than done. For some people, having an existential crisis is part of the process of coming to that revelation.
