Yeah, that Phantom Menace thing shits up that whole year as far as I am concerned. You could not talk about movies without some Starwars fanboy jarjarjizzing over that movie comming out and then it sucked balls.

1989 was a pretty amazing year, but so was 1981
1. Raiders Of The Lost Ark
2. On Golden Pond
3. Superman 2
4. Arthur
5. Stripes
6. The Cannonball Run
7. Chariots Of Fire
8. For Your Eyes Only
9. The Four Seasons
10. Time Bandits

Heavy Metal, Scanners, Escape from New York, Excalibur, Clash of the Titans, and Evil Dead also came out that year.

'94 is definitely a winner. '95 isn't bad either.

Braveheart
Se7en
The Usual Suspects
Heat
Twelve Monkeys
Toy Story
Casino
GoldenEye
Die Hard: With A Vengeance
Friday
Desperado
Apollo 13
Mallrats
Bad Boys
Jumanji
Mortal Kombat
The Quick and the Dead
Tommy Boy
....and plenty more.

What kills me though, is that you can look back on some of these lists pre-2000 and its amazing how many good movies were crammed into a single year. These days, there's so much junk and so little to offer.

A pretty good counter-argument, but I think Forrest Gump iswildlyoverrated so I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

You've gothalfof a good year there (and it is a very good half) let down by the other five:
No 4: Heat - Solid film, but nothing exceptional.
No 7: Casino - Decent, but ultimately Scorsese-by-the-numbers and weaker that his previous work.
No 8: Judge Dredd - Um, yeah. The Stallone one.
No 9: Before Sunrise - Anyone actually ever heard of this one?
No 10: Clueless - Funny, but not Ghostbusters funny.
