James Ellroy, famous "hardboiled noir" US author, known for writingLA Quartet tetralogy(Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, White Jazz),Underworld USA trilogy(American Tabloid, The Cold Six Thousand, Blood's A Rover) does it again with a new book, Perfidia, the first of his second tetralogy book called "The Second LA Quartet".

In the first LA Quartet Ellroy depicted Los Angeles from 1947 to 1960 through its crime and people, cops and villains, most of the time shady characters crossing the line on an everyday basis.

With USA Underworld Ellroy went on a national scale, depicting stories leading to JFK's assassination through Las Vegas and Vietnam. FBI agents, Mafia thugs, CIA operatives, it's again about how lines are meant to be crossed.

With Perfidia Ellroy goes back to LA right before Pearl Harbor. With his new book the author paced himself, unlike American Tabloid elliptic and fast writing Perfidia explores Los Angeles underbelly through the scope of 3 characters on a more standup approach : Dudley Smith, LAPD sergeant with expeditive and crooked ways, William Parker, LAPD Captain, alcoholic, shady and the ambitious Kay Lake, agent provocateur and muse.
