For the past couple years I've been helping a buddy of mine with his solodev project KATANAUT, a sci-fi eldritch horror 2D pixel art roguelike. Inspired by Katana Zero and Dead Cells, KATANAUT involves slashing through hordes of enemies with an arsenal of over 150 skills, perks, and offhands.

Katanaut releases on September 10th, and I'm doing a free Steam key giveaway here on FoH. All you need to do is have a FoH account that was created yesterday or earlier and comment in this thread. I'll pick the winner randomly from the commenters on September 9th.

There's a demo on Steam if you'd like to check it out, and adding the game to your wishlists would also help us out a lot. Thanks!

We have a partnership with a PR firm that has been really helpful for helping the game get into different events and showcases (the release date trailer debuted at Gamescom). Aside from that, it's mostly been word of mouth and online ad campaigns (mostly Reddit).

What engine is he using? Really like the old school pixel art metroidvanias but i'm in a gaming slump so havent really stuck to anything lately.

It's Godot 4! The game itself is more of a roguelite than a Metroidvania, although some levels do have some Metroidvania-like elements (such as locked rooms needing keys or secret areas requiring certain upgrades).

Picked it up today also to try out and forgot I had to go pick up the kids. Not because I was playing and it was so good or anything. Just downloaded it at literally 4pm which is when we leave. So, don’t use that as an endorsement on Steam. Will play some tomorrow!
