Not really, unless you drink it in insane amounts or with other drugs. Codeine is a pretty benign opiate as it is, since it's fairly weak and has a ceiling dose, and promethazine is just a shitty anithistamine. Honestly, I'm pretty sure the whole 'sizzurp' thing is just a placebo/the sedative effect from the promethazine, by the time you'd drunk enough of it (which would be a lot) to get high off the codeine, the promethazine would put you to sleep.

None of them are from the cough syrup alone though. One combined it with alcohol, one had sleep apnea and one had a heart attack which may or may not have been influenced by using the drug.
Anyway I guess it can't have helped, and I don't know enough about promethazine to say whether it could have contributed to the seizures, or to the other dudes heart attack. Paging Dr. Aychamo!
