SDCC news was

The next Mass Effect has a ?Spiritual Successor? vibe.
Frostbite 3 allows the animation team to do things they ?couldn?t even imagine before.?
Speaking of customization, the team wants to give players as much choice as possible.
It?ll be set during Shepard?s life time, but won?t involve him/her. It?s a completely new story.
Cooperative multiplayer is more important for BioWare than competitive.
Some of the characters from old games may make an appearance.
It?s too early to announce composers and races available to the players.
The mako will return, and it?s very fast.
The game isn?t titled Mass Effect 4, at least for now.
No release window was provided during the panel.

This is a bit different than i remember initially - I thought they were going to keep it far away from the Shepard story which i guess they will but having cameo appearances is kinda meh.

Yeah ME is possibly the series i want most to return on next gen, and if they are doing some co-op and hopefully some MP PVP(like in ME3) i'll be all over it. Fuck in all honesty ME is a day 1 buy no matter what they do with it.

Turian Wars were like 15 yrs before ME1 that would be within Shepards lifetime.

So hope isn't gone on that idea.

Ohh god I hope they bring back chest highwalls and corridor based gameplay.

This game will only be playable imo if they completely step away and redesign how ME is played. By the third installment the gameplay was just too damn repetitive.

I hope they make it more Fall Out like on the open world / story side of things with BF style shooting.

No reason to be a walled corridor game anymore.

Walled I could see them adjusting, yea - but rest of the shooter mechanics no way.

And on it being "walled" being that it's Frostbite 3, I think that's already a given that they're going away from that. (See DA:I)
