Evening, gents.

Were you raised on a diet of Warhammer, George R.R. Martin, and heavy metal: do you love spiky armor and mad gods—and love reading about them getting hit with axes?!

Old Moon Quarterly is a print and digital magazine of dark fantasy, and sword-and-sorcery, short fiction. We publish weird, gothic, bloody tales. Stories of rusted knights and crumbling kingdoms, of giant-slaying mammoths and cannibal cavemen, of god-slaying heroines and lovelorn swords. Think Tanith Lee meets Robert E. Howard—or Gene Wolfe, by way of Dark Souls.

I am a super long time lurker and occasional poster on FoH, and a co-founder of this magazine, just launching my newest crowdfunding for the project earlier today. We have done our absolute best, our message is clear as day and right here, modern day S&S, world-wide open submissions curated by two (!!) people, for you, all I can ask for is a moment of your time and consideration.

You and I are members of culture and society, too, ya know! The demand is there, real people are buying copies and sales have steadily grown for two years straight - 100% organically.

Our very small team allows us to have miniscule overhead and focus entirely on processing open world-wide submissions and presenting the absolute best volumes we can provide. The results speak for themselves.

No AI, all real artists and FRESH ideas, NEW authors like Jonathan Olfert and our own Graham Wilcox are side by side with established names like James Enge, John Langan and Laird Barron.

I understand the reservations you may have, and what you believe the odds may be, but believe it or not the genre is alive and our readership is *growing*.

Take a look at our stretch goals, they focus on only one thing; better compensation for authors and artists. Exclusive single print of physical bookmarks as a thank you for contributing in the first 48, just a neat thing any reader would enjoy.

Looks nice but you have 64 backers. It doesn’t look like there’s much demand for this. Curious how many you sell each quarter after the 100% annual growth? Good luck, does look cool.

Yes, we are small. Beginning with just two dedicated fans of the genre and zero readers to dozens and then hundreds and here we are with a few thousand readers world wide. We were able to crowd fund the last few volumes entirely with surprisingly few backers. Those said volumes 7 and 8 were extremely well received and contain the most recognized authors we have had the pleasure of working with thus far. The modest initial numbers will climb and plod onward as more readers become aware.

Our entire focus has been on quality and building a worthy collection. Now that we have gotten our foot in the door, won some awards, have a nice collection, we hope to advertise and expand. Couple brick and mortar outlets, some BnN shelf space, gotta start somewhere!

Indeed, our first kickstarter at the end of 2023! It was successful and afforded us better pay rates, which let us reach out to more well known authors.
