An aide to Mr. Moon said this week that the allies were working on ways to move strategic American military assets into the region more frequently, to help deter North Korea.
Sounds like they spend more and we keep on spending...

I want to pull out. Fuck them. Bretton woods made sense when we depended on the world, we don't, they depend on us. Make them police the seas and stabilize regions.

If Trump wasn't such a fucking idiot about NAFTA we could blow off the rest of the world, and play ball with Mexico and Canada, and not have to give a fuck about issues an ocean away.

I mean we'll always be a pacific power as long as california doesn't secede in the mexican reconquista. planning to be able to project force as quickly as possible is probably the right stance if you plan to turn a province from a garrison town to a satrap.

Yea, fuck those stupid countries an ocean away. Lets spend all our money on socialism and 'playing ball' with our 2 bordering countries who constantly talk shit about us and take advantage of us (probably) more than anyone!

How do they take advantage of us? And when did I bring up socialism?

We should have a good strong NAFTA and arguably AFTA (Americas) and strong tariffs on China. No matter what, cheap manufacturing jobs are leaving, thats just a fact, they aren't coming back. So they might as well go to Mexico and Central America. If those countries have decent jobs and improve the quality of life we won't have to deal with the immigration problem.

Nope those manufacturing jobs ARE coming back actually. A combination of market access, favorable tax structures and trade policies persuaded more and more manufacturers to build products in the US rather than build them elsewhere then ship them here.

Chinese wages have skyrocketed in recent years and that's a huge factor too. Chinese labor is now more expensive than Mexican labor and without NAFTA, the calculus for building factories in the right-to-work incentive states is becoming rosier.

I'm not talking about good manufacturing jobs, CNC, semi educated manufacturing and such.

I'm talking about low level volume shit.

The economics are the same man.

The fact is that rising CHINESE wages aren't an aberration...it's a correction towards their new mean as a developed industrialized state. They were destined to reach wage equilibrium with the rest of the world eventually....and when it did those jobs WERE GONNA COME BACK.

Mexico SHOULD be the first beneficiary of this....but Trump happened and NAFTA didn't so all those benefits for jobbing out your manufacturing in China have dissipated while right-to-work states and tax incentives have made industrial "renaissance zones" like North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky supremely competitive.

It's been too long, and there's no real news about anything going on over in NK. So I did a quick google search and it showed me some ABC News report from 7 hours ago. I know it's going to be shit, but it's a bump to the thread none the less.

Trump meeting with North Korea was 'failed summit' that was 'all about show': Panetta
thats some fake news. first of all. Trump said a million times that nothing may come of the meeting, just that it wouldnt hurt to try. second it didnt fail. the missile testing is no more. NK dismantled many sites. we got Korean War remains and actual prisoners released. we also got peace talks between SK and NK to end the korean war and work toward uniting the country. nothing failed. these things take time. its complete bullshit.

Panetta's a fucking idiot. We got hostages and the war dead back as gestures of good faith and all we had to do was postpone multimillion-dollar exercises a few months. Even if the norks were absolutely sincere in denuclearizing, it would take longer than FIVE MONTHS to decommission their program. South Africa only had centrifuges and heavy water reactors and it took TWO YEARS to decommission theirs.
