So I got a new PC and finally got around to playing this and....

I gave up, the difficulty is too fucking hard, even on Standard.

Seems like they went back and completely unbalanced everything about OG combat. Speaking of which; standard difficulty on this is somehow harder than OG Professional.

Final straw was the regeneradors. Way too fucking OP and requires far more precision to kill the internal parasites than you ever had to from OG.

I've had moments from other RE games that were insane (Abyss Tyrant from Revelation/Inferno Final Nemesis from RE3make), but I've never seen such a ridiculous difficulty curve in an entire RE game on normal/standard difficulty. Difficulty feels like a legit equivalent to something like the Hardcore setting.

I was able to get an S+ on Hardcore in RE2make after about 20-30 hours of playtime. I can't even beat this game after 40 hours.

Really wanted to enjoy this, but if I were to make a review, it would simply be "A Potential Masterpiece Undone By One Fatal Flaw."

Are you sure you were on Standard difficulty? Cause even my 75 year old dad who plays Xbox was able to beat RE4 Remake repeatedly... and I recall not really having a hard time playing the OG RE4 at the time (and my dad beat that one too!). There's a lot of shooting and action in RE4 compared to previous entries (especially OG compared to the previous games in the series which were tank controls and slow aiming) but I don't recall feeling a huge difficulty spike..

Maybe you should reconsider your weapons loadout for the Regeneradors? Technically, you've seen most of the game since those enemies show up pretty late but still, it's a bummer that you feel unable to finish it, and I'm legit wondering if something made your game harder than it should be.

Yeah, I made sure it was standard.

I did go back to beat the game, had to look up advice for Regenerators (pathetic because I've only ever had to look up advice for speed running in an RE game) and it turns out you can just knife them.

On a second run through of the game now, trying to see differences now that I have upgraded weapons.

I still say it's far too difficult to be considered "normal" difficulty. It really does feel like everything has been heavily tilted in favor of the AI to give it an advantage. Just finished water hall and experienced enemies being "too close to hit" with the Striker, input reading from crossbow enemies and literally watched a cult member get i frames from getting up while I tried to double tap with Striker because it had already locked on to grabbing Ashley.

I've already played RE2 and RE3make multiple times, I've never seen outright cheap stuff like I have RE4make, with the exception of Hardcore mode in RE2make, but again; THATS Hardcore, I would expect it to be very difficult.

Even playing OG 4 for the first time, being brand new to over the shoulder camera and aiming, I never got frustrated. Remake feels stuffed full of bullshit and cheap hits.

OG4 had massive amounts of enemies attacking you, with varied attacks, but it was balanced by precise(forgiving) aiming controls, guaranteed stuns for head shots and good visibility. Remake almost feels like they took RE2make's combat and aiming system and threw it into an action game when it was originally designed for survival horror, without tweaking it at all for considerations of a faster paced game.

Edit: When I originally played RE2make, after going through the game around 2-3 times, I attempted Hardcore and then after that, started going for S+. The only time I ever needed to look up advice was Burkin Form 1. But basically, the game was intuitive enough that a decent player could form their own strategies. So, I don't know what I'd classify RE4make's difficulty: cheap? Unforgiving?
