RE 9 comes out February 26th

The rundown on what's new

Supposedly a new story with some callbacks to RE2 and RE3. It's almost entirely disconnected from the RE7 and RE8 storyline.

Main beef I have with the franchise is total gameplay hours and atmosphere took a dive from RE7 (which is an all time greatest in the genre) that was expected-- but RE8 Village had literally 8h of gameplay story. It was too light.

I'm waiting for the embargo to drop and get a number on how long the story is and how many gameplay hours I can expect. I can't do Village again, and judging how nobody cares this is coming out (as opposed to Village release which had hype) I have to figure this is a flop. They need to come back to RE7 and it sounds like that's not going to happen. When I hear RE2/3 callbacks I hear cheaping out and playing on nostalgia.

I'd go even further and say the game lost it's way after RE:CV. I think the remakes were cool but the way the franchise went deviated too much from its original purpose.

RE7 was the first RE I completed and I liked Village as well. I also recently played and beat RE4. For some reason I just don't like the city thing with this series - I cannot place my finger on it.

Everyone liked Village. Then you look back on your friends Steam profiles and half of them finished the game in what really could have been 1 single session.

I'd be looking for closer to 12-15h out of RE9. I felt the wallet burn on Village coming in at 8-10h

I didnt make it out if the house in re7, everything felt too dark and gross lol. re village was great with those horny vamps and the latest re remake was better with skimpy skin mods. omg what have I become!

Admittedly I didn't finish RE7 at first because it was too scary. I had to play in increments and then settled on playing with sound off, and made it pretty far that way.

The SFX is still the best in the genre. The tension was incredibly strong. Maybe too strong.

Only a handful of games are in RE7 league SFX wise. Damn creepy.

Yeah going to have to wait to see reviews here on this. It’s odd there is no demo like there always is and a launch -1 for review embargo. Capcom fucked up wilds and tons of other things to play. Probably wait for a sale

ACG Review:

He does say that they gave him the PS5 version to review because the PC version wasn't ready yet....... So I would still wait on seeing what reviews are in Steam because if they aren't passing out PC code that's an issue that could mean it is going to run like shit on PC. Let others take the plunge first.

Sounds like it's pretty good however. 10-16 hours....

Yeah all reports are this is short as fuck. Most reviews are saying about 10 hours - a couple even lower than that at around 8.

I wouldn't be surprised, since it is capcom, they cut shit and will sell it as DLC.

Is that not the exact time range RE games typically have? Hitting 20 hours is a rarity in those games for a normal playthrough.

I got the platinum trophies for most of the modern RE's recently. Thats about the length I'd expect. Most of them if not all of them have some trophy or another to beat the game in under 2-4 hours depending on which one it is, so 10-15 for a normal run of the game is about right.

I hope they brought back knife only runs cause those are always a good time!

Looks like they cut 20-30% of the game for DLC which is why it is so short this time around. There is a story arc here of Alyssa Ashcroft and while she was still in the trailer they cut an entire playable segment out as backstory to sell later.

Metacritic is currently relying on gamers to report these websites to have them removed. There is no active process to remove them besides gamers helping to police it.

This website is not the only AI review website that was participating in metacritic. Be weary of aggregate scores.

This is the same thing that pissed me off with the re3 remake, which started solid and then you can tell when they started phoning it in at the 2 hour mark.

RE4 remake on PC is really good. Plays and looks amazing, and don't think it is missing anything. Granted not played the original since I had it on the wii which was really fun as it played like a RE duck hunt
