based on the best selling book Station Eleven

its a post-apocalyptic TV show, episode 1 is day 1 and then it slowly transitions apparently to 20 years later. A global pandemic has eliminated most (80%?) humans and the show is about a traveling band of performers re-enacting Shakespeare.

I don't watch trailers much anymore so just reading about the show made it a hard pass, but a few critics have rated it as their favorite show of 2021. 3 episodes have dropped so far, 10 episodes total with 2 dropping every week I guess.

I'm a bit dystopian fatigued so this isn't really a show that interests me much, but the writer/showrunner did work on the Left Overs and Maniac and both got pretty high praise. The main lead was the weird cyborg chick in Terminator Whatever The Last Shitty One Was.

3 episodes up on HBO max now. Might watch it, not sure. Still got so much great TV to watch like Ozark, Succession, etc but its kinda nice jumping into something thats short and new.

The pilot episode was filmed Dec 2019 right before covid19, then production halted for a year, then they came back to finish. Kinda wild.

I guess this is the kind of show for someone who just feels like the fear porn in their life is lacking a bit?

Wasn't that how The Postman started? lol

Wait its really about them traveling around doing Shakespeare in the post apocalypse? My interest just went from 100-0.

lol i assumed that was a red herring and they were a cult or band of cannibals or something, they aren't really gay stage actors for the entire series, are they

Hey! I've read this book!

The book was alright but bland and didn't leave much of an impression. The scale is small and the reveals are small. There's some flashbacks that build towards the discovery that some characters are connected in ways that were not obvious from the start. There's no cannibal army or atomic weapons or anything big. It's a mostly empty world without a lot going on in a slow decay with a then sorta optimistic ending. If I had to pick out a book for my cool wine aunt based on what I've personally read I could see going with Station 11.

Adapted in to a television series I just don't think there's anything interesting enough for anyone to keep tuning in?

i think mackenzie davis is a pretty underrated actress so i'm glad to see her in more things, but... not this. the description almost reads like one of those mad libs.

Mackenzie Davis has never impressed me. And I’m a big HACF fan. Hell, in HACF she's a computer prodigy that types on computers using only her two index fingers.

I want to like this show and some parts of it are really good. I liked the Madriana story when she tries to flee China and stuff.

However, the core of the show is taking a bunch of insufferable hipster faggots and letting them survive the apocalypse. Only to parade around for 20 years afterwards doing everything they can to retain their insufferable hipster mannerisms and style.

If the apocalypse didn't make me go Mad Max running into these assholes certainly would.

Yeah anything past warlords, rape, death, robbery, tribalism, starvation etc... is just not real apocalypse. Because you know deep down that this is exactly what would happen.

In the book Captain Trips is so mega contagious and fatal that basically all the shit would be left behind.

You'd probably still have warlords though even if we Thanos Snapped 99.99% of the population away.
