Disclosure: the 15 year old version of myself would kick my ass for making this thread. However, I've matured as a person to the point that I am comfortable saying that I can now appreciate qualities of this genre that I couldn't as a kid. If you felt the same way as I did about this music back in the heyday of emo, I implore you to keep an open mind.

IDK, I guess. When I think emo, I think shitty black haircuts and songs about wanting to die because your high school gf left you. I always immediately think Hawthorne Heights.

Eh, I think all of these songs so far can fit the bill for emo. Some might be whiner than others, but I don't think you need to be specifically crying about ur ex-gf to be considered emo. It's more about the general angst.

I went to a lot of Saves the Day and Get Up Kids shows before anyone knew what the fuck emo was.

But by the time My Chemical Romance and New Found Glory came on the scene I was out. Never seen anything turn so gay so fast.
