Have had this on my wishlist for a year and a half. I think I tried a previous demo and liked it but my memory sucks so not sure.

DLing the demo again, will try it after work.

I don't like these builds games much but was reasonably enjoyable demo. Though much of the balance on weapons seemed off, but you only had access to lv 1 basic bitch stuff

It kind of reminded me of herzog zwei with the base building and mech thing you control. Not sure if it has units like HZ did but that would be fucking great.

Holy shit, I looked to see if anyone remade HZ and there’s one called Airmech Strike that looks like a modern clone. I’ll be DLing that too! HZ was the first ever RTS I believe. You controlled units to take over bases against an opponent, you controlled a transforming mech/jet too though so had big influence over the unit battles. It was a lot of fun.

Looks like there’s an Airmech Wastelands too. I’ll have to look into both and see what the difference is. Ones free to play the other isn’t.

its on Gamepass. A bunch of us played it on there. and talked about it in the gamepass thread.

It was quite fun. I only played the campaign, didn't try Survival.
obvs, $10/m price point is fantastic. $30 might be high. A solid buy at $20 for sure.

Theres a few bugs.

when you get to the yeast mission. theres 2 roots you must destroy. if you don't, you'll get a save bug, when the yeast spreads too far, not allowing you to save games. you can ignore the error message, and go find the roots and destroy them. allowing you to save again.

"find the unusual creature" mission bug. in the desert you get this mission, if you wait too long to do it, mobs scale up past the level for the required mob to spawn. you are looking for a basic Stegasomething. a creature that looks like its out of metroid. uses its front legs to block attacks. you can leave that mission, and go do the other desert mission that opened up, from that map. Tanzenite mission. the stega something, has a good chance of spawning on that map. unlock it on site, and when you to back, the "find the unusual creature" should complete.

on the starter map. ore is not as important as nearness to large sludge pools.

Yeast infections ruin fucking everything.

I got drunk with two of the devs that made this at PAX a couple years ago lol. Polish dudes that got their studio funded by a grant from the government under some art thing or another.

Pretty chill dudes. Game is a ton of fun, but still has some flaws which isn't surprising given this is their first venture.

They actually did X-Morph: Defense first which was a pretty fun tower defense and is the reason Riftbreaker was on my wishlist.

Hrm I hadn't heard of that one. Maybe they meant this was their first "large" production just in terms of scope of the game. They didn't speak amazing english, but at that point in the night none of us really did heh.

Yeah Riftbreaker is much more ambitious in scope than X-Morph. X-Morph was a fairly standard tower defense with the addition of a flying mecha that you could use to help with waves and block/divert lanes in predetermined places, doesn't even begin to compare to Riftbreaker.

Picked this up and have been playing a bit. Not knowing what I’m doing in the beginning led to my base being kind of a mess but it’s not a huge deal. Would be nice to have an OCD layout but maybe if I play through again on a harder difficulty. Game is pretty fun, sooo much shit to research.

The graphics are gorgeous with all the Ray tracing and shit turned to max. Especially at night, the contrast of the various weapon’s glow is awesome.

This would be a blast with multiplayer, they’d have to crank up the invasions though to keep it more interesting, would be easy if it stayed at current level.

I haven't played much so far, but really digging the prologue in the demo so far
There’s so much shit I didn’t realize. Like the RB+LB bio scanner. Took me a while to figure out energy and how some buildings work, like pumping and purifying mud into water. How animal and plant biomass stations worked. I’m sure there’s a lot more I haven’t figured out yet, there’s just a ton of currency and shit to research. I’ve barely opened anything on the alien tech tree. Hell I didn’t even realize there were three trees to research from for a while.

A lot more depth than what I was prepared for. My headquarters is just one big power plant essentially. Weapons killing shit a mile away if it spawns. Meanwhile, other parts of the planet - those weapons do jack shit lol. At some points though, I just plead for the game to give me a god damn break so I can build something! So now Im sketch about playing a harder difficulty lol.

Just keep in mind when you upgrade your HQ shit gets tougher, so be prepared for the initial onslaught when you upgrade it and tougher waves afterwards.

Also Radars make it so mobs don’t respawn in its radius. So filling the map with those helps a lot with getting breaks, then you only need to worry about the waves.
