This is NOT Ultima Online Forever, but a new game being made by EA/Mythic.

  • NOT an MMO, but it is online
  • Stylized aesthetic
  • Free-to-play model
  • Cross-platform PC/iPad play (PC via Origin)
  • Small-party dungeons with hubs (Guild Wars 1 approach?)
  • Release: Spring 2013 (iPad)

As someone who played every Ultima starting with III from the day they came out....

This is an absolutely awful piece of shit. Do not go near it.

As another who played every Ultima, including the spin offs way back when, I dont have high hopes. Since Richard Garrott owns Lord British, whatever they come up with with have huge holes in it for Ultima fans. Every time a company "reimagines" something, they screw it up. Biggest thing, any new Ultima IV will be a watered down version of what Ultima was. They wont make it near as hard as it used to be, esspecially if they are going for casual gamers.

U9 was awful, but it was still Ultima. U8 is still the worst though imo.

This isn't Ultima. This is your run of the mill microtransaction Mobile game with homages to Ultima IV.


edit: Guys, don't get confused. This is not a PC game, nor is it an IPad game. It's a mobile phone game first and foremost, but they want to trump up the PC/Ipad side to make it seem like it has more depth than Baseball Stars. And while it does have some story and it's a nice quality mobile game, they are just using Ultima to separate it from every other mobile RPG out there.

Unless you have a 10-year old kid who won't use DOS to play your old Ultima's, stay away, this will just kill memories.

Agree with all but more importantly - if you have a 10 year old kid willing to play the old Ultima games, period, please provide parental advice.

The game is live now for Iphone/Ipad.

Not much changed. They softened the repair/key rate a bit. Free players still need to grind a lot more than gold key buyers since quest items drop more often in rare (gold key bought) chests and quest items equal quest exp. Fun little game if you do not expect an Ultima 7 remake or very deep gameplay and you are not annoyed by wierd mechanis like your armor getting damaged randomly just by standing around in a dungeon. According to Kate Flack, the lead developer, they strive to add content on a six week cycle.

Don't think this one was ever going to be PC - this isn't the Garriot project. I was confused clicking on the thread thinking it was the Garriot one if you did the same.

Fuck EA/Mythic in it's bloated dying asshole. They'll probably shelve this game without notice like they did their PVP WHO offshoot after opening up their RMT system for 6 months.
