The far simpler reason is that well over half of New Mexico's southern border is with Texas, not Mexico.

Even if it's not retroactive it'll stop the creep of the "mexico in america" culture. folks may actually assimilate a little more.

Imagine that; the founders didn't really want it to be used as a backdoor into citizenship.

No shit, Sherlock. Re-interpreting things because of new social paradigms makes sense, as long as the interpretation matches the gist of the original concept. Citizenship for children born of citizens was the intent; it was never meant to be an exploitable loophole for illegals.

I'm not a big fan of questioning the constitution in general, but I mean.. c'mon, nobody with two brain cells to rub together actually thought the 14th explicitly was designed as a loophole for illegals. The people that did had an agenda, and it fed into that agenda.

How is that not a fucking crime?...
something something states rights.

Ice says, we want that guy. Local cop says come get him. Ice says well be by next week. Local cop says we're letting him out tomorrow, if you want him come get him. Ice says that's not how this works. Local cop says you're right about that. We're letting him out tomorrow.

Is how that usually seems to go.

For a while, if you remember, ice was basically appropriating local prisons. They were forcing the state's to eat the cost.
