This was actually part of my original point. This show is odd because we get basically no perspective from the antagonist. In fact, we dont even actually know, as the audience, if the writers intend for the invaders to be the antagonist. We are pretty sure, based on how we would feel ourselves...

Sorry, I meant to specifically say this suddenly sapient collective *thing* is at odds with itself depending on what stage of the lifecycle its in. My apologies.

I don't *think* anything. I'm just curious about why this invasive species has been at odds with its own narrative. Like everyone else in this thread. And I'm just here as part of the conversation responding to people with my own curiosities. This is a pretty good show.

They could do both? In fact, they did do both. Its pretty hard to write a story where an alien race can get another planetary species to infect themselves but only in one way and only aggressively at first, but then theyre totes super nice and have it actually make sense, logically

Yea well none of that makes sense either because they needed a human to receive it, understand it, recreate it and then it needed to incubate and grow into its benevolent state. The rat was in stasis and then bit the first human host, and then the human was in stasis then started kissing and...

Or maybe that's actually what they were trying to do and humans are more resilient than they planned for but there was a try/catch block in the sequence that just made us slaves if we didn't die. But that doesn't explain the whole "we won't harm you if you don't want us to"

So why not just send a sequence that makes our brains/bodies short circuit and die (like Carol's wifey)

Well, if they were totally hostile they probably wouldn't try to use mind control they'd just kill everyone and probably wouldn't be leaving Carol and Co alive and serving them.

If it was a hostile species why do this in such a roundabout way? Why not just... kill everyone? Or target 90% of the population but leave remote tribal peoples alone if they want to preserve "some" human life? I'm pretty sure the theme currently is they didn't do that because they are...
