Maybe he/she will grow into it?

I'm jealous that you live somewhere you can still have a fireplace going in late April (or it is an old pic I suppose). I'm struggling not to turn the AC on yet because once I do it will be on until maybe October :(

She's a dipshit, thru and thru. She's a trainable dipshit, thankfully. She does pretty good with the focus heel, which is honestly pretty impressive. Must be the shepherd part of her shining thru. We refer to her as a dingo in German Shepherd clothing, however. She started burying food a couple weeks ago for no reason. She's only put on a couple pounds since we got her in December, so I've been feeding her a lot to try to get it so her ribs aren't showing, and she just started burying it. It's like she all of a sudden thought "2 meals a day for 4 months straight? This can't last forever." So I'm pretty sure there's a chicken leg and a beef bone somewhere out in the yard.

Also, was fucking cold this week. I usually turn the heat off in April, but it's still 35 when you wake up, so we just use this to warm up the living room until the sun starts to do it's thing.

I have been thinking that maybe I don't need a dog, I need a good working German shepherd, but then I think about this situation and think that when I get one, I won't want that one either and will just want Zel back.

It's a hole that can't ever be filled.

Mine died in November, and it was literally last month when I finally stopped thinking about her all day every day.

Now it's only most of the day most days. So I got that going for me.

Stay strong, buddy.

15 year old random stuff mix breed. Adopted from shelter by Mrs. Haus Mrs. Haus and I when she was around 8 months old.
Spoilering the part you may or may not want to read...

She passed this morning, eventual progression from what the vet believed to be a tumor growing in back of her nasal cavity starting to put pressure on all the wrong things and causing intermittent nose bleeds.

She was a great dog. And in the 20 years now I've been married we've lost more than a few pets (we both had animals who were past a decade old when we met, and maintain having multiple animals as an obvious surrogate for the fact we weren't able to have kids, but that's another story for the therapy thread I guess) Having experienced the different ways we have lost them this was the best possible way. She'd been getting more and more reluctant to get up and move around. Yesterday she went off her food, wouldn't eat and wouldn't take pills wrapped in cheese. That's when I knew it was about time. Her breathing was labored, she looked tired, but wasn't showing signs of distress/pain, just exhaustion. I didn't sleep last night, but was sitting with her petting her at 5:30 this morning to help her relax and get to sleep. Once she nodded off, I laid down to try to sleep as well. I couldn't, checked in on her again at 6:45 and she was gone.

Last week my 20th anniversary was derailed and essentially ruined when we had no power due to storms, now this week we're dealing with getting confirmation that my Father in law's cough is stage 4 small cell lung cancer, my oldest living relative is in the hospital today having a tumor removed from her pancreas, and now this. I saw this coming for a while, the vet prepped us for how it would probably play out, but still..

fuck this stupid world.

We've been blessed with pets that make good long runs.
Churla - Dog - died of old age at almost 21
Pooh - cat - died of cancer at 17
Bailey - dog - died of mass on her pancreas that threw her into unexpected diabetic shock at 13
Lacy - died from complication of spinal degeneration (long haired dox) at 12
Miko - Cat - Died from kidney failure at 16

You'd think by losing pet #6 in 20 years this would get easier, I can tell you it doesn't.

Our dog is about to turn 17. Still healthy for now but know it's coming, even if it's a few years from now.

Someone dumped puppies nearby, they were whimpering next to my fence… I hate people. Spend the 30 bucks to spay your dog instead of being a piece of shit.
So one has ring worm so CAP won’t take em, gonna foster for the weeks it takes to get em healthy. Chillest puppies I have ever seen.
