IMO trickster defense is king. Stat stacking energy shield seems to be the build that has the least issues from map/altar mods. Beacuse no mods really affect your first defensive layer which is just a big 20k or something ES pool. CI makes you chaos immune. Recharge isnt regeneration. No mods...

The sanguimancer seems like the most rippy to me so far. Feels like they only need need about 0.1 seconds of 1 of my pixels being in their FoV and im dead. But for all mercs i always run around a corner or something and let VFsnaking chase them down because they're all dangerous.
