I have a hard time believing this.
No one at Blizzard is this dumb, obviously.

I think they just don't care about any players opinions, not casuals, not high-end players, they only care about numbers, they look at the numbers and if the numbers look right, they think your opinion is just unfounded and dumb because obviously they have so much more data than you and you only have "feelcraft".

They don't care about player opinions at all, it's true. They are feeding human addiction instead of trying to make a game. They are trying their best to turn every activity in WoW into a slot machine to turn us into WoW gambling addicts. It works too. Even though I hate this shit I still log in and do it because it's the only way to "feed" myself the gear/currency I need to do what I actually like... which is M+.

It works in the short term to appease shareholders and board members but the game, and the entire playerbase, suffers for it in the long term. It's not sustainable and it will eventually fuck them over. But for now they are riding it because it looks good based on their new bullshit "time spent playing" metrics.

I think skimmins was telling us once that he was at a furor BBQ once and someone asked him about player feedback and he couldn't stop laughing.

I would take a bullet for skimmins so I believe him

People not wanting to lose their investment is a huge reason mmo's keep going like the energizer bunny. WoW has millions of people invested in their toons. It takes a serious fuck up to lose those players. BFA is definitely that fuck up.

Will be interesting to see what they do to get those players back, or if they even can. They better hurry. Once players leave an old mmo and start really checking out the new games, going back get's less and less attractive.

WoW still has at least a couple million active accounts though, probably more. That's a ton of income. They may just focus on keeping them and stop the bleeding.

Might be that I'm old and honestly a bit tired of this hamster wheels called MMOs, but I enjoyed WoW until Legion, because I valued mostly gameplay and that adventure feeling that some places like Suramar managed to deliver in a very convincing way (for me, at least). The fact is, thanks to constant pruning, class design is a vagon of cow shit, it has hit the lowest point of all times, I believe a monkey flinging poo on a keyboard, could have typed a better design doc than the current one. This means, that if you play a shitty character (all classes, all specs, pretty much), the rest of the game is already less enjoyable, but BfA was just crap all around: uninteresting story, bland zones (Stormsong valley is possibly the worst zone ever, but I must be exaggerating), mediocre dungeons (although Siege of Boralus was cool the first time), etc. etc.

Deciding to quit was... effortless.

For the fist time since WoW exists, I have no desire to play it *at all*, I'm disgusted, period. It would take such a rollback, that it would be similar to a NGE from SWG of old. Giving back abilities, gameplay choices, removing random loot, warforge and titanforge, goddammit, it would mean redesign this game backwards. That open letter to Blizzard? Amazing.

This is 100% what happened.

It is ALL about metrics.

I believe in metrics above all else normally myself. The problem is that in a reward scenario the metrics will lie to you.

If they implement a new thing that rewards players the players will do it because that is how they get the rewards which vastly outweigh the negatives in their addicted minds. So the metrics show good user engagement so it must be because everyone likes that new thing ....

Like when call resolution time and reduction of staff numbers is "better" for shareholders than it is customer satisfaction or first time resolution stats. And it is, initially. The upfront drop of OPEX is decent, but then the significant drop in corporate morale, followed by reduction in new or return customer revenue, and a recycling of increased resolution stats (because generally if you're cheaping out in one area, you are in other areas, including product quality). I've seen support centers implode over and over with this practice.

Yeah islands are a perfect example. Everyone did them because they had to

Well except the faggots in this thread that said they enjoyed them. You know who you are

Islands were a nice change of pace at first. It's still one of the few activities left in the game that give you an outlet to grind out rewards at your own pace. The rewards need an adjustment and the tuning doesn't make any sense but they have potential.

Sorry you're an FFXI loser and never experienced true MMORPG gameplay.

Imagine paying full 60$ price tag for a game and 15$ a month (20$ if you use tokens) and that game has severe server stability issues as well as bugs that have been being reported for over 7 months and instead of fixing those you release toys as a microtransaction

sure, they're doing it under the guise that "the toy will pay for esports" like dota does, but dota is fucking free and this is an MMO where the endgoal is to earn things but here we are, adding toys to the cash shop instead

Listen, I get that you don't like being able to run around and group up shit that doesn't leash so you can AE the fuck out of it for a nice, quick, satisfying leveling path but that doesn't mean Islands Suck Dick.

Wait... you were one of those guys who couldn't handle more than one pack at a time because if you didn't pay attention to what the shit was doing it would CC you and you'd die... weren't you? WEREN'T YOU?!

All of you disgruntled players need to come over to FFXIV with us. We need more WoW refugees there.

Have you been to the ffxiv sub? That place is basically birth control for.playing that game.

I did islands with a world rank 6 m+ warrior who ran them like i was a slave. They were plenty easy but there was no excitement there.

What do islands give you? I only did one ever so I haven't even upgraded my boat or whatever. All the abilities past level 2 looked marginal anyway so I never bothered.

Glad I already quit this shit, that is pretty fucking insulting from Blizzard.

There are something like 27 pets that drop from the islands, so suckers like me have to run them.
