This is always a funny topic for me...
I worked for an Israeli based company for around 12 years. I went to Tel Aviv more than a few times, and still have a lot of friends who are with the old company and living in the holy land.
It boggles my mind at how different Israeli Jewish people seem to be from American Jews.

You are absolutely right, North American Jews are radically different than Israelis. American Jews are mostly liberal and PC. Israelis are loud, emotive, and don't even know what PC is. Doesn't have anything to do with religion, just a by-product of the environment you've had to grow up in.

I honestly think this is a huge part of why Israeli people are the way they are. Everybody serving in the IDF gives kids right out of high school structure, having a real tangible threat to you and your country gives them a better sense of scope in terms of what one really needs to give a fuck about. If I go further with this I'll be on my "old man bitching about how American kids today are all raised soft and lazy" soap box...
