I would disagree with this statement, because when your most efficient spell is cast 10s in advance, and you literally cannot try to anticipate stuff because your tank dies twice during your cast time, then there is no other solution but a CH chain.

No. They're mandatory, and you think they're fun because they yield the reward you're seeking, which is power, not "fun". In the general sense.

The problem then isn't levels; it's a power differential. Basically, you have exactly the same problem at "end game": level 60 people in "levelling greens" will have difficulty grouping with their guildies in Blackwing Lair. Theoretically, they can, but they die. In the same way that they can...

Wildstar Launch Thread - Server: Stormtalon | Faction: Dominion

Yup. The previous game for which I had some good feelings was Guild Wars 2. I was willing to overlook the fact that it had blurry roles (no tank! no heal!) and no raiding game, both of which finally broke the game for long term. Wildstar doesn't seem to fall on those points, and it adds...

But I do. I've played some of these. In fact, on this very sub-forum, there's an entire thread devoted to one of those "non-MMO". You group up with a few dozens/hundreds of people, with objectives, on a shared world with thousands. What's not MMO in that? It's not a MMORPG. Granted. But then...

That's not what market research companies see. Yep, the MMO market is sinking (oh wait, the subscription-based MMO market is indeed shrinking... replaced by B2P/F2P models). Not that I don't agree that the current crop of MMO offerings are relatively lacking in features that would play to the...

And how is that working? Except, you know, by making wait lines longer so that the game can attempt to socially optimize your group. Just saying: assume there's a checkbox that says "click here for a longer wait, but higher CHANCE of getting someone you've adventured with before". How many...

No Drop is a method to limit an item's rarity. You can limit it in various manners. But, if the item is "valuable", then you must limit its distribution in some manner. Or you end up with the "everyone has it" syndrome, and it's no longer valued. If your item drop from a dungeon boss that...

Chris Roberts stressed multiple times in interviews that it wasn't "like a MMO at all". Which I think means a mix of local solo-play game, plus lobbied shared instances.

I'm not buying because, 1) I'm in a "no MMO" phase 2) It's primarily a MMOFPS, and I'm not into FPS, MMO or not. For now, I'll stay witha small game that sold only 10 millions on PC.

Dig your own mines in the way you want them, minecraft-style, and let them get infested by mobs. The more non-linear, the higher the chance of a named boss. Win.

If you need access to some ilvl for entering 5.2 LFR; you might need to get some valor items from them. If you're good, then no. (unless you don't do LFR, but get valor from dailies/dungeons. In which case, it's your valor dump and you need some rep to spend it)

A number of people had restarted on the Ubisoft-owned euro servers during late PoP. What emptied the servers was when SOE started to offer free transfer since the servers were perennially empty (which was ok - on Sebilis we had ONE raiding guild, period. No racing). A lot of europeans who...

    Rift: Planes of Telara

The problem is the NGE syndrome. You might want to change completely how your game works. But doing so is almost guaranteed to drive away most of the people who were still playing. And will you get back enough players? That's a though question to ask of a company.

Doesn't work. If every human you kill respawn as a monster, and you need to kill three humans to get back one human, you quickly end up with no humans left.

    Rift: Planes of Telara

I do remember that era. And yes, that was the intent originally. The only remnant of the "take over, build" is the rifts mob teams going to some various stones if no one is around, building some kind of rift summoning blob, and waiting to be eradicated.

Oh but it would. The problem isn't that it wouldn't, it's that all the neckbearded around that clamor for that game want it also to be an AAA game, with lots of content and graphics at least better than Neverwinter. And that's where the problem lies. You can have your hard, deep game. Or your...

They're a subsidiary, not a studio. They are 100% owned by Activision Blizzard, but they are, financially, autonomous. In theory, at least. That means that Mike Morhaime theoretically sets the budget, and what remains in profit (i.e. lots) gets passed to the holding managed by Bobby K.

Overestimate, my ass I'd say. But the thing is, up until Cataclysm, they did 4 raiding tiers per expansion cycle. Vanilla: MC, BWL, AQ, Naxx BC: Karazhan/Gruul, SSC/TK, Hyjal/Temple, Sunwell LK: Naxx 2, Ulduar, Coliseum, Citadel LK is where they suddendly started to have problems...

Cataclysm. The expansion "tone" was supposed to be elemental, with the bosses of Air (Throne of 4 winds), Water (Abyssal Maw?), Fire (Firelands) and Earth (Neltharion aka Deathwing), thus 4 raid tiers like usual. Except they decided that 3 raid tiers were good anyway, and you didn't waste...

Permadeath works "well" when none of the elements bound to your character is permanent. An example is Minecraft: there's a number of situations where death is complete. Fall into lava (or any situation where doing corpse recovery is impossible), you lose every single level of xp, and all of your...

Yes. And 3 months down, no one does it. So, by the same token, the devs should spend their time making... what exactly? Arguing that devs shouldn't do housing because "no one will care" (after a flurry of activity when the feature is introduced) is not a valid point because the raids and...
