Yep, very true. I think for many people it isn't the raiding that they are talking about but just the general everyday gameplay. For many of us it is WoW's style of basic everyday gameplay that is boring, raiding isn't even a part of the equation. The quest hub, lack of danger / challenge in...

Defining what is hard and what isn't is really a pointless exercise. And reminds me of superman vs hulk arguments, only retards care. WoW, EQ and other games require different skill sets to succeed. Being good at one doesn't always translate to the other. If all games and their playstyles...

The 1.2 patch that came out about 5 months after release is the one that made BW's unbearable for most players. 1.2 is the patch that pretty much killed the game, because of BW's and for a number of other reasons also. The mass exodus that left because of that patch I hope is a lesson to Mark...

You guys throwing a tantrum about it really doesn't help your case. And it is a great illustration of why devs don't come to boards like this anymore.

I'm fine with the info given. He might have said too much already. Obviously he can't give it all away or he will be shut out. Be reasonable and use a little common sense.

I haven't played Mount and Blade yet. My example is just one obvious way to change the archaic aggro model most mmos still cling to. There are any number of ways to change it. The point is that the existing trinity aggro model is old, stale and extremely limiting. Almost every mmorpg is a...

Sure, if they made that game I would play it, and have fun. But even better would be a total redesign. Like they did with Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek. Just throw out all of the old boring bullshit, and start again. While taking advantage of the new hardware, new software and all the...

GW2 fails imo. Their aggro model doesn't work for PvE. It becomes the exact issue that supertouch brings up. It is a kiting game and that is never fun. GW2's WvW does have potential and is a lot of fun at first. But it doesn't have any depth, nor does it represent their PvE and GW2's PvE is...

He doesn't say no respecs, just limited access to them. Until the game is actually released it's hard to say whether or not this is a bad idea. Easy respecs are important in combo PvE / PvP games where the two require vastly different capabilities. Since this is just PvP game at this point...

Well, it doesn't have to be ultra realistic, that isn't fun for most players. But the trinity as it exists is already boring and extremely jarring to the fourth wall. The goal is to create a fresh, new, and engagingly immersive experience that the player enjoys. One obvious path is to have...

http://www.youhaventlived.com/qblog/...og190810A.html One of the main problems is that it's very unrealistic. Yes, I know these are fantasy games but even in fantasy worlds most combatants would be intelligent enough to ignore the tank and go after the soft targets who are actually doing the...

Haven't tried this yet. Mildly interested but there are a ton of games out now vying for my time. IF the TV show is good then I'll probably check out the game even if it gets bad reviews.

The first problem is with the trinity and the aggro model that created it. Aggro was an artificial creation for rooms that had no dimensions in early text games (that link someone posted earlier explained it). If you change the aggro model to be more realistic then the trinity isn't such a big...

Yep, good idea. Already spent too much time here on the wrong subjects.

So you want to fill up the gear bar but not any other bar..... got it. All bars bad but one. Draegan's bar is the only bar that matters and all other bars must be banned from existance... Really dude.. don't you see you've already got that in every almost game out there? Why do you even want...

Rift's travel in the early days with the debuffs etc was a pain, and not fun. Traveling from Qeynos to Freeport at level 12 or so was dangerous, scary and fun.

"Rushing to the endgame" has become one of the biggest problems in modern mmos. Most content created is for leveling. The endgame in most mmos is a small room with ugly walls (instanced dungeons), while they ignore the vast world they created for leveling (see GW2, or most mmos). How devs deal...

Yep, it is valid tactic but you need to be clear in understanding that you are accomplishing the exact same thing as a standard level increase. People who scream all the time that they "hate leveling" but still want their plus one stat sword really are laughable.

Which is just another way of saying level. Gear grinds are just another form of level grind and they accomplish the exact same thing... increasing stats and power. You just have a mental block on the word "level". If you want any kind of power increase over time in your game then that is a...

Haven't played this game in ages, been meaning to but some other shiny always gets in the way. Always admired the devs and their professionalism. The main reason I left was because raiding was too much hoop jumping and SWTOR was just about to come out (oops). Is raiding still the same hoop...

No, I don't care about the gear. The reason people stopped logging in is because GW2's PvE endgame is dailies and instanced dungeons. The very thing ANET said they wouldn't do. WoW already does that better than anyone else. Why copy it? Especially if you suck at being a WoW clone.

hahah.. that is a real sad try at justifying your losing stance. Look, I'm a GW2 fanboi, but even I can see reality. GW2 has serious issues that need to be addressed to get back the people who gave up on the game. Otherwise they will be a failure long term. GW1 still is a more successful game...

Nice selective editing there fuckwit. I also said they cared about box sales and that was their biggest revenue stream. Their cash shop is an afterthought. Just look at their offerings. And WoW grew every day after launch, adding servers etc. So did EQ you fucking moron. Go play on one of...

Yes they are lying. JQ has the longest queues at 10 to 30 minutes, they use to have over 5 hour queues. All servers had queues, now only a couple do. Anyone with half a brain can add 1 plus 1 and see that if they were getting more concurrent log ins then queues would be going up, not down. Every...

That's only on JQ and that happened after Prx moved there. There were some queues before that but the PRX move brought a lot of bandwagoners. Most of the rest of the servers have no queues. The lower tier servers are getting depopulated and have been for a while. The players that don't leave the...

Not true. If it were then they would have added servers. My guild has been on 5 servers in our travels, starting on Jade Quarry. Originally we were trying to get away from the WvW queues, but lately it's to find a server that is still active. I'm back on Jade Quarry, but now we have players on...

What you are reading is them selling boxes and mistaking that for people still logging in. People not logging in to GW2 isn't as big a deal for them as other mmos because their business model is based on boxes. Their cash shop loses a bit if people aren't playing, but their shop isn't the main...

Concurrent logins are down for GW2 and continue to decline. They are selling boxes and they deserve to, but most players only play for a few weeks and then never log in again. GW2 is not a bad game overall. Just their endgame sucks (that may change).

Personally, I dont' care how fast the leveling process is. All that matters is the content. If the endgame consists of just doing dailies, instanced dungeons and battlegrounds then I bail the game. So do most players. And that is why GW2 is losing so many players. Their PvE endgame is lame.

Oh, they are still selling boxes that's for sure and they are not a failure. But more people are leaving the game than new ones coming in. The actual amount of people logging has been decreasing drastically for some time now. The lower tier servers are ghost towns, even most mid tier servers...

Actually, GW2 is losing players, lots of them. A huge reason for that is that their PvE endgame consists of grinding dailies and instanced dungeons for plus 1 stat loot. They copied WoW's craptastic model and people are leaving because of it. The only thing unique in GW2 is WvW and the...

And yet every mmo that caters to the masses that you say want this fast jump to endgame has failed.. except the king of that style, WoW.

I generally enjoy leveling more than the endgame in current mmos. Usually when (if) I get to max level on my main, then I just start playing my alts more. Leveling content is usually much more interesting than endgame content in most mmos. I'm not against playing more of the endgame in a mmo...

Sounds like a dev who is blaming someone (or something) else for his failures. As Denaut already explained so well, engine discussions in regards to mmo's are largely irrelevant. The use of the Hero engine doesn't matter, what they do with it does.

The current set of devs that rule the mmo industry are cowards. Just look at the GW2 devs and the pathetic crap they have put into their game. GW1 was also groundbreaking in many ways. GW2 is pretty lame in comparison. GW2 is still better than most current mmo's, but they wimped out on the...

Nope. And that is why nobody plays it anymore. But as failures go it lasted hell of a lot longer than the 3-4 weeks the current bunch of mmos get. The 2 faction problem is huge though, game breaking in many ways. It's debatable if fixing the other things would have mattered.

Gotta agree with Kedwyn also, WAR had a lot going for it. Our DAoC guild stayed there for a looong time. It wasn't perfect, far from it, and like many I rage quit a few times in frustration over some of their boneheaded decisions. But other than DAoC, no other game got RvR so close to being...

You do have a reflex reaction against any idea that changes the current mmo paradigm though. And a first person mmo is definitely not the current rule. As for copying EQ1, I would play that game and it would do well. But it wouldn't be the "next big thing" for the reasons copying WoW doesn't...

Hah. I say that because it's shorthand for your constant arguments for more of the same. You always say you want something different but in the end everything you argue for is just a copy of what we already have. You argue against anything that changes the mmo space in any significant way and...

Saying it doesn't work has already been proven wrong since EQ1 was a first person game and was very successful. And it has all those traditional mmorpg elements that you claimed force games to be 3rd person. Your WoW centric viewpoint has skewed your ability to think outside of the box, or to...
