Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

So was there anything new shown on ABC? I thought there was supposed to be a special or something, but it looked like they were just running normal shows, so I guess it was something they snuck in during a commercial.

    Fallout 4

Make sure you grabbed the latest GPU drivers. They are supposed to be Fallout 4 "optimized". I'm on an OC'd 970 GTX with all settings maxed and have yet to see it drop below 60fps even in town with lots of characters around. Unless you are running 4K or something you should be able to easily...

    Fallout 4

So far I would agree with the consensus. The game isn't revolutionary by any means, but it's good fun and very addicting. It feels very much like a more polished version of Fallout 3, which, after 7 years, could be disappointing to reasonable people, but it's not really bothering me. Like FO3...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

I don't recall the name Palpatine being uttered in any of the OT including in the SEs. The first time I saw the name was in the original Star Wars novel. After that I'm pretty sure it was used in the EU only up until TPM.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

I'd even give a centimeter of ground on the possibility that one could be more emotionally impacted by RoTS than by Empire. Despite plenty of blunders, Episode 3 did actually contain some well-done and impactful moments, so I suppose if you grew up on the prequels having not seen the originals...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

I don't completely hate the prequels, and I could accept the fact that there are adults out there that even really like some or all of them, but to put any of them ahead of any of the OT is beyond bizarre. I can't begin to fathom how that would work for anyone over 12.

He was there...doing exactly the same thing as in the last trailer. Anyway, that music...mmmmfff.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Yes, it came off like a Monty Python skit. I imagine some of the people on set were getting pretty nervous at that point, wondering what the hell they were making. It's pretty remarkable to watch the documentary where that Vader footage came from and to see just how much of a disaster the...

Star Wars: Battlefront, as told by Dice on Frostbite 3 (PS4?/XBone?/PC?)

Oddly enough I enjoyed playing on the PS4 more than the PC despite the graphical differences (it's still beautiful on the PS4). Maybe the skill-level of console people is more in-line with mine, but it was nice to be able to actually kill people and not die the instant an opposing player so much...

Star Wars: Battlefront, as told by Dice on Frostbite 3 (PS4?/XBone?/PC?)

I will say that the game installed and performed beautifully for me. The graphics are very nice and 100% smooth on a GTX 970. I just can't hang with people who spend hours a day on this shit anymore. I really don't understand the appeal unless you are playing with a group of friends.

Star Wars: Battlefront, as told by Dice on Frostbite 3 (PS4?/XBone?/PC?)

Well after about 20 minutes I remembered why I loathe multiplayer FPSs. Will not buy unless they come up with some decent single player content.

    Metal Gear Solid V

And now the great debate between PC and PS4 begins. Obviously I'd get better graphics on the PC, but how much better? I've always done Metal Gear on consoles. Something about these games is really enjoyable while curled up on the couch with the lights dimmed. I can't really do that with the...

    Anarchy Online New Graphics Engine

I've been playing on Live using the new engine beta, and honestly I'm not exactly sure how different things look overall because of how long it's been since I last logged in (four years or so). It's definitely not close to cutting-edge, but I suppose it looks okay. I can certainly pick out some...

    Anarchy Online New Graphics Engine

I still get a little sad thinking about the unrealized potential of this game. I still have yet to experience anything that equaled just the raw feeling of exploring the world in the original game. Navigating the vast environments that largely felt hand-crafted in concert with the brilliant...

    Windows 8

I'm still too much of an OCD PC nerd to be satisfied with an upgrade only. I generally do a format/clean install 1-2 times a year. I assume if I want to continue down that path I would need to pay for a full copy at some point, yes?

GoT - Is Over, Post Your Drogon Sightings

This season has been like trying to get a hot girl to fuck you. It's a bit slow-going, somewhat frustrating, interesting at times, with no shortage of cock teasing and promises of action leading to waiting until the next weekend, and then the next...until finally tonight the deal was closed and...

    Witcher 3

I'll still take 60fps and better graphics that will very likely improve through patches over console controls, 30fps, and graphics that will always be the same. I'm definitely frustrated that PC games have become console ports rather than the other way around, but I don't see how the PC...

    Witcher 3

Yeah, sorry, even if the PC version does and forever will look exactly the same as the PS4 version (which of course it won't), 60fps still wins.

    Witcher 3

Or, plunk down the $60 to support one of the few developers who are clearly passionate about their products, communicate effectively with their fanbase, listen to criticism and do their best to patch accordingly, and above all, turn out very high quality games. Save the cheapskate shenanigans...

    Cities: Skylines

It's funny how fast things can turn to total shit. This game definitely punishes you for being reactive rather than proactive. Make sure you get your essential services placed as quickly as possible, or you could come back from getting a drink to find that half of your town has the plague and...

    Cities: Skylines

I played for a bit during lunch, and so far it seems pretty solid. It looks a lot the newer Simcity but feels a lot more like the older games. I really like the road system as compared to Simcity. It makes it easy to optimize your grids, or go for more imaginative designs if that's more your...

    Nintendo 3DS News, Games, etc.

I picked up the "new" 3DS today and messed around for a few minutes. The 3D is much improved over the previous models. I couldn't stand to play 3D games on the older one, as the sweet spot was ridiculously small. Venture out of it even slightly, and the image would break up in various annoying...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Did you even watch this movie? Bilbo has more to do in this film than he does in the corresponding section of the book, which basically amounted to his smuggling out the Arkenstone, which is in the film, and getting clunked in the head by a rock and spending most of the battle napping. Then he...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

I'd easily put this one ahead of DOS, no question. It's tougher to compare to the first one, since it's good/bad in different ways. This one should definitely benefit the most from the EE, though. This is certainly the only one of the three where I think adding more material would net a bigger...

    Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 - 2019

Sinister did NES Punch-Out blindfolded last year. He only took the blindfold off to take down Tyson, who is essentially impossible to beat blindfolded due to his randomness and 1-hit KOs.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

The point is that the Arkenstone is barely discussed in the book. I don't even think it's even mentioned at all until after Smaug leaves Erebor. If memory serves, it's described as an heirloom of Thorin's family and the centerpiece of the giant treasure collection, but it's not given a large...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

To be fair, he turns into a mega-dick in the book as well. I actually thought the films did a much better job of planting the seeds of his turn towards blind greed and arrogance. It wasn't a big surprise if you were paying attention. In the book hes basically normal Thorin and then he's...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

No, it's re-forged while they are all in Rivendell and he leaves there with it. Aragorn not getting the sword until before he sets out for the dead army and in dramatic fashion was entirely a movie invention. In the book it was like, "Hey, your sword's done." "K, thx."

    Witcher 3

Your processor is fine. i7 vs i5 doesn't make any significant - if any - difference in games. And save up your spare change for a GTX 970. They are a ridiculous bang-for-the-buck right now and should play Witcher 3 just fine.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Of course it's not needed, but stupid? Nah. Drawing comparisons between that and Yoda mentioning Han Solo to a young Obi-Wan, however, is. Thranduil would have known of - if not outright known - Aragorn. His lineage was of extreme importance to the "elders" of Middle Earth. Han Solo didn't mean...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

It's not "just fucking stupid" for any of those reasons. Again, he was well into adulthood at the time, he had already been raised in Rivendell by elves, and he was a pretty exclusive member of a nearly extinct race. Thranduil knowing who he was made perfect sense and fit just fine.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Yeah, it'll be less annoying once they can all be watched at home however you'd like to, but they could have easily wrapped up Smaug in 2. Apparently the extensive scene with the Dwarves and Smaug bumbling around Erebor was very last-minute and was shot with little to no storyboarding or script...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Aragorn tells Eowyn that he's 87 in TTT, (though I think that scene was only in the EE) which would make him around 27 during The Hobbit. And it's pretty clear in the movie that he and Legolas were already well acquainted by the time we first see them both in FoTR.

    World of Warcraft: Current Year

So for some reason I downloaded this game using a free 10-day trial of WoD that was available on my old account. Arrows aside, complete stealth and secrecy was key to their plan to infiltrate Mordor. Certainly the Eagles would have a flock of angry flying Nazguls after them in short order, and then everyone would be fucked. And then there's the matter of giving the ring to such powerful beings to begin...
