Can't speak to the base game, but the free version is the Celebration edition which has everything except the preorder bonuses unlocked. There's literally nothing to spend credits on with this edition.

I believe they are both bind on equip. I still have some of the older level capped heirlooms and they're bound to the characters that have them. The only powerlevel item that I can think of off the top of my head that you can share between characters is the Universal Toolkit.

As Raes said, don''t buy the expansion. At this point you only really need the 99 point quest pack. I think all the extra stuff that came with Helm's Deep got rolled into the base game now anyways so you might literally get nothing for those extra 4200 points.

The underwater shooting is about the only fault I have with the game. One shotting harpies when diving for treasure feels wrong compared to the non-swimming game.

Satisfactory is more an economy sim. 3D first person Factorio but with less combat. No waves of enemies, just somewhat random wildlife that you clear out when expanding/exploring.
