They are all suppossed to be a out the same dps but Brokentooth is the fastest attack speed pet until 60 for ZG Bats etc. He does a number on casters but the fast attacks are not nearly as good vs melee it seems.

DS2 is different in the sense the levels are usually the most dangerous part of the game. The bosses are generally really easy compared to the other games. There are some notable exceptions though. They are amazing at pulling you into their world. That's a big part of why they are my favorite RPGs.
