Ok, internally Google usesNewSQL, which is a relational system that attempts to be maintain ACID guarantees but hit the same scalability and read-write speeds of a NoSQL system.

Hmm... I remember reading about them using NoSQL for there faster I/O stuff (like gaming). For example,Facebook's Messaging system uses HBASE, which I believe is a non-relational (NoSQL) database. My understanding was also that Google replaced their MySQL implementation with other...

The servers are written in Erlang , which is a fully multi-threaded functional telephony language. It is the language developed in the 70s at Erickson used to write the telephone network backbones and can scale to a ridiculous degree by just adding hardware. WoW and, at least older SOE stuff...

Well, yea. But saying and doing are different things. They are saying things that are certainly possible, but they aren't doing any of things that show they are the people capable of doing them. Good luck with your project!

Functional Programming languages and NoSQL databases work much differently than traditional I/O, so we don't need (or have) an in-house DB guy. The data-centers that host our servers probably have them, but then you are sort of paying him through your hosting costs. It isn't quite the same.

What you are doing is awesome, and a really clever way to do things so that they fit your needs. I am just trying to explain that this way is great for a quick prototype/hobby project, and doesn't scale even a little into anything remotely approaching a commercial product. Now, it really...

I agree... but where is it? I would expect it to have been avaliable from the get go. Sort of. In theory you could get away with 3 people for pre-production. Brad (as Designer), 1 client programmer, and 1 server programmer. Assets you'd buy from the Unity store or farm out a a Chinese...

If that isn't what you meant, thank you for clarifying. That was how I took it, and I think so did several other people. But, now that you've clarified your posts it is much more clear what you meant, which is reasonable. I actually, even with our extremely good tech, would not attempt to...

Ok, so thankfully this thread shifted to a technical discussion involving Unity. I love technical discussions. Unity is awesome. At the company I work we use Unity as the client in every single one of our projects. Unity allows you to prototype and test ideas very quickly, as in weeks as...

Diet. As to what you should do for exercise, if you are here asking a question like that then the answer is strength training with one of the many popular 5xWhatever programs. I like Starting Strength, but there are several good programs out there.

The extra high caloric requirements of swimmers have almost everything to do with training in water. My understanding is that 12k is an exaggeration, it is more like 6k-8k, but that is a lot higher than even other Olympic athletes. Doesn't have to be frigid, just "warm room temperature" or...

I absolutely do. I learned a lot working on that game and am proud of what I did. I don't consider it a mark of shame in any way, and in general don't hesitate to talk about my experiences there even in a public space like this. I can be even more candid in person

I have it for the Wii U. Don't get me wrong, I still really like the game, it is just that it seems to demand a level of precision from the gameplay that the camera/character controls (and the collision system) don't offer. I think a simple lock on camera would have gone a very long way, if...

Good point, I misspoke a bit. The fiber doesn't really feed you so much as the good bacteria, which can break it down. When you don't feed them (low amounts of fiber), there aren't many of them. If you suddenly start eating a lot of fiber, then there is more there than the amount of bacteria...

If the addition of lots of leafy greens is relatively recent, the ass splitters are caused by the lack of the right amount of gut bacteria to break down all that plant cellulose (fiber). This is sort of interesting. I wonder what they are going to do. Logically it is far too early to be building a dungeon in Unity, so maybe it is a discussion and paper design? I kind of want to at least check it out but it starts at 2am for me, ugh.

I play mostly Singed top and I don't really have problems with Riven as long as I don't play stupid. You can't 1v1 her early but Fling really screws with her combos and she really can't stop your farm. Voli would probably be in the same position maybe?

I meant what I said. I think most people's attachment to EQ is nostalgia, and the minority where this isn't true are simply part of a niche that isn't big enough to support itself. I don't think a professionally made "Classic EQ" is viable, and if it is I don't think it would come from someone...
