Sim swap won't work with Google authenticator. You had google authenticator right? If someone got control of your account, they would change your email before making any other moves. I'm sure emails were sent when transactions were made, the emails just didn't come to you. What they should...

Good article on why Web 3 will have a serious struggle to be as "decentralized and censorship-proof" as it claims it is (or can be). https://www.theverge.com/22939290/web3-coinbase-apple-moderation-nfts

Lol, did he mean to say a "vulnerable U.S. trading partner" or a "valuable U.S. trading partner"? Funny either way. Few thoughts: -The money laundering thing is such a red herring. Just come out and say it's 100% about preserving the role of the dollar as the world's reserve currency. This...

Is it your position that, assuming mass adoption, governments will lose the ability to trace and track BTC transactions? Because they clearly have that ability right now (just look at the news). Assuming they maintain that ability, and I don't see why they wouldn't, it would be a pretty simple...

I dunno man. I think we are a long way from BTC (or any crypto) being censorship resistant. If your government is going to act like a tyrant*, BTC isn't going to save you. * Speaking theoretically here- not necessarily in reference to this specific Canadian example

Yes I know lol, we aren't arguing. Maybe I'm wrong, but for all we know Apple isn't even aware that they are "enabling" crypto payments by taking the Coinbase card along with all the other credit and debit cards they are taking.

Yeah: “Coinbase will automatically convert all cryptocurrency to US Dollars and transfer the funds to your Coinbase Card (less conversion fees) for use in purchases and ATM withdrawals.” One, Apple "enabling" crypto transactions seems more incidental than intentional. And two, no actual...

If I'm reading it right, Apple "enables" crypto payments by integrating with the coinbase and crypto.com debit cards, which allow you to use crypto directly to pay for things. So basically, instead of going to a store and using your coinbase debit card to pay for something with crypto (which...

Like what? I find 5e (minus the newer, ridiculous stuff) is great for beginners/kids, but not crunchy enough for more advanced and/or older players. That's one of the reasons I started building my own system. I'm curious to know what layers you've built and how they would coincide with the...

There are hundreds of alternatives: Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Burning Wheel, Mouseguard, etc. But none of them are close to the size of DnD. PF probably counts as a "competitor" for DnD, but I think it's the only one. I could be missing some though, it's been a long time since I hung out in a...

    The D&D thread

You mean for this "next generation" of gamers who are playing D&D for the first time? If so, I'm sure it will. If tradition holds, D&D might keep a stranglehold on the fantasy genre for TTRPGs, but there will be plenty of popular non-fantasy options. For the record, I'm hoping someone can...

Article is heavy on doomsday prognostications and light on explanations. She's pretty hot for a BTC wonk though. I'm going to go ahead and guess she's just parroting lines from her boss, Alex Adelman. She's also not wrong that normal people would equate a CBDC to BTC, even though a CBDC...

I've noticed most of the people complaining about "Government interference" don't actually read the articles. They stick to the headlines and make assumptions. I'm familiar with the history of ETH 2.0. From what I'm seeing the only change they are announcing is the name change. Not the timeline or the goals. I was trying to figure out if Torrid had information I hadn't seen yet, or if it was just an assumption based on his BTC bias. I'm not...

The possibility definitely exists that the top coins that end up "making it" if (when) crypto gets mass adoption and ends up powering Web3 aren't in the current top ten or maybe even haven't been created yet. The current top "use case" coins (ETH, BTC, SOL, etc) all have pretty serious issues.

I'm not upset. "Progressive" definitely feels closer than "woke" but tbh I don't think The Wire is very progressive either. Both progressive and woke have a political agenda. A political agenda presents a problem and suggests a solution. The Wire just kind of gives us a long, hard look at The...

The Wire: Greatest Show Ever Made

Failing to understand what "woke" is helps keep woke alive. People who call everything woke are as bad as the people who call everything racist. Edit: One of the great things about The Wire is it manages to address serious social issues with depth and honesty, without resorting to "wokeness."

FWIW I tend to agree that the crypto space will ultimately emerge intact (though probably changed) on the other side of these three issues. Your timeline of 2024 or 2025 might even be right. Also the "rocky days ahead" aren't necessarily a bad thing if you change your perspective. They are...
