    Ludum Dare

Sort of, I posted it, but it is really broken as is. Working on fixing it up, spent most of today on that. It was sort of barely playable and not finishable as posted.

Tough one for me. I had to sleep on it. I'd guess I'm about 20% done with less than a day to go, looking grim!

    Indie Games

Monaco is out on steam! It is a coop heist game. Played some 3 player last night, good fun. I was totally lost for a bit at first, but eventually learned to see what was going on (kind of like dorf fort but much quicker).

    The Beer Thread

I have a problem you guys might be able to help with. I don't have a lot of beer knowledge, but I'm really into hoppy beers, and when I lived in Reno, there were a lot of great choices even at the crappy gas station a block from work. I have since moved back to my home town in Oklahoma. The...

    Ludum Dare

Hurray! I'm very ready. Got some basic directional and point (cubemap) shadows and pathfinding going. I want to try to build a nice player character this time. I usually try and bail back to first person because it takes so long but I've gotten a lot faster.

    F1 2013 Season

I was at the circuit of the americas (austin track) this past weekend for the motoGP festivities. I've always heard the commentators say of various tracks that tv doesn't do it justice. It is really true. Seeing turn 1 made me want to see ea rouge with my own eyeballs.

    Camelot Unchained MMO

The link is about some GL stuff (I don't use GL) that cuts down on some of the cost of making draw calls. MMOs aren't necessarily pushing more geometry, but they have limited control over what a scene will be like because there are players everywhere. MMOs almost need a special driver that...

    EQ - The Sleeper

I remember a change somewhere in the eq timeline where they pushed the curve towards the bottom a bit more. Like it took the same amount to get to 50, but they made the lower levels take more and the upper levels take less.

    Hero or Unity

Good advice, and check out torchlight and torchlight 2 mod stuff. They release some characters and monsters in max format that have the rigs and everything. I used them to help test my collada stuff.

    Camelot Unchained MMO

12k seems a bit excessive, but it sure looks cool. This stuff:https://developer.nvidia.com/content/bindless-graphicsis what you need for an rvr game. Helps with lots of people in view with lots of varying outfits. Should make it easier to combine stuff into larger draw calls.

I'd take whichever / whatever does the most server stuff for you. Bonus if it scales.

    Indie Games

I bought Cart Life after seeing it on the IGF awards. Really cool black & white pixel art and chiptunes, with a life sim sort of gameplay. It is tough, and a bit depressing, but oddly engaging. The guy that wrote it gave his IGF booth to another developer because he really liked her game...

The big thread of game industry fuck ups

I'm very confused by the microprose stuff. Some day I'll read it all and make sense of it. Related, there was an original x-com ufo defense talk at gdc. I think it was broadcast live but I missed it.

    Camelot Unchained MMO

I had to read some erlang for a server gig... that was... really strange. I've been learning the server side of things for web stuff, and it is so completely and utterly alien to my C++ directX world. It has been interesting.

    Consoles opening up a bit

These two links: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/1..._indie_dev.php http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/1...s_onto_PS4.php ..are quite interesting if you are an indie developer. The nintendo one in particular is quite juicy and has more details, but I don't know that nintendo is ever...

Aradune Returns to EQ aka the EQ Nostalgia thread

The mith marr japanese folk were so nice. I remember Colleague of Sanctuary just because it was an odd name, and Immortal Bravery I think was the other one. I remember a japanese bard surviving one of those random cross zone death touches in very early fear. Partial resist I guess.

Old titties worth revisiting ? - post yours here.

On Torment, some people are really turned off by the Mortuary. My first playthru I got out as fast as I could, but in later playthrus I explored every nook, and there are so many interesting tidbits in there. Stick with it, you'll be so rewarded. I wish I could erase my memory of it and...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

I didn't really take the article as an insult. It just seems to point out the nebulous nature of the job. It is a fair point that often the designers don't have any creative control over what they are doing. Even when I was working for RG I had like 5 or 6 managerial types I had to get a...

    F1 2013 Season

What a fun weekend! I got all the bits in an odd order so watching the saturday stuff now. So far it is supernerd ted, and crofty and brundle just chatting about stuff, which is almost as fun as watching a race. I wonder if they will remind the drivers to watch their language at every...

    The Elder Scrolls Online

They need to find a way to do it without loss of control. Any stun / mez / screwover move needs to last one second tops. Ideally you wouldn't have any at all. Crowd control is only fun for the crowd controllers in pvp.

    God of War: Ascension

The live action trailer for this was so lovely it made me weep, but I'm not a fan of this sort of gameplay.

    The Elder Scrolls Online

Not right now. PC hardware has gone for more triangles and more fill to the expense of all else for many years. The end result is that draw calls themselves are very expensive, and the usual approach is 1 character == one draw call. Multiple characters can be lumped into an atlas and drawn...

Shroud Of The Avatar - Shit Went Persistent

I'm in for sure. I worked for the guy for awhile, and grew up with his games. I just hope he finds some good people. In the early days he had some legendary mega-brains working for him. Ken Demarest, Zack Simpson, and Tony Bratton are the ones I know, really brilliant people they really...

    EQ Never

Raph goes into the problems with the early ecology stuff in a blog post somewhere (too lazy to look it up) but if I remember correctly, the AI radius checks were the killer. That would not be a problem now. The weaker second version was indeed destroyed by players. Stuff was hunted to...

    Planetside 2

I remember seeing phoenix rockets filling the sky in the first game. Not something I'd care to see repeated. Was great fun if you made it to where they were hiding though. I wonder if they will have the alt fire detonation. That made cover useless against it in the first game.

    Ludum Dare

As for C#, for now it is great, really fast to develop with. All my tools save in binary though so I could very easily write C++ that uses my skinned models and bsp maps and such. I'd probably be a bit rusty but most of my code over the years has been C++.

    Ludum Dare

I've seen the IPI stuff, but I haven't tried it. It is a bit too expensive for me right now, but they do seem to be the best for home / cheapass indie use. Maybe by the time I have the dough to spend the durango kinect, which is supposed to be more accurate and wider fov will be out. I'm...

    Ludum Dare

So, two things: There's a game-a-month challenge going and I signed up. And I've utterly failed so far, missing the january and feb games. And secondly I've developed a makeshift motion capture setup because I suck at animating (though so far the mocap isn't much better). Bloggery on...

I think hitching is talking less about crossing chunk lines and more about running past an open door in Khal and freezing for 5 seconds while it compiles shaders for all the various pottery in the room you are passing.

I quite liked Crypt of Decay in pop as dungeons go. I could throw together any old group and make it work with my fancy pants new enchanterlike abilities (on the deadites)

MMO hardware optimizations (Or lack thereof)

You should get it in console ports like skyrim, mainly because there's no way to get a decent game running without heavy threading on a console. The price you pay is latency, often updates can be delayed a frame or two as things are off cooking on a thread. A for instance here is like the...

Ok I just played this for almost an hour haha, very fun. I'm in oklahoma too so quite relevant. Hilariously, what got me to stop was the weather knocking out the power / internet.
