I'm on Faeblight, but you can do pretty much everything cross-server these days.

    Defiance

Made my character before I left for work this morning, but didn't have a chance to do much playing because I was greeted by "Position in Queue: 1113 | Time Remaining: 13 days". And the game exited at some point. Character models look like Rift characters aged another twenty years, mixed with...

Shard of Fear was the worst; hated going there for the Defiler epic quest since there was some funky vision stuff going on as well.

No, it's not the first year. They were okay, you zone into modified EQ2 instances that have some EQ1 callbacks in them. At the time they introduced them the rewards were decent, but I'm not sure if they've been updated since then.

SWTOR also gave me a good first impression, at least until the second planet.I even enjoyed some of the dungeons besides the first for each faction. The skill tree in this game sounds kind of fun, at least.

    Everquest II

I thought DoV's heroic progression was pretty crappy because you could pretty much skip ToFS thanks to public quest gear, and with the way the gear tiering worked out there was no reason to run anything but the Kael dungeons once you were able to complete them -- at least until they added the...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

NDA is supposed to be lifted with beta phase 3. Judging by the roadmap, everything besides the content finder, level sync, and whatever miscellaneous bug fixes that don't make it til the open beta will be in by then.

    Rift: Planes of Telara

Honestly, I would be fine with how zone events are now if there was actually a threat of losing and there was more randomness involved. Right now they are utterly mindless: run to fixed locations on the map, kill easy mobs, get currency, rinse and repeat x 30. Throw me a curve ball...

    Defiance

Considering the show is on Syfy I don't really have high hopes for it. Also just checked MMORPG.com's key giveaway and they aren't exactly flying off the shelves, lol.

I wasn't even going to bother signing up for an MMORPG account to check out the beta but seeing all the vitriol this game is attracting has me kind of curious now.

    Camelot Unchained MMO

Feedly's okay, though the widget doesn't display as much information as I'd like, and there doesn't appear to be a way to change that. I was using gReader before, which had a widget with a long, simple list of recent news items -- not very pretty, but conveyed a lot of info. Also eyeing newsblur...

    Everquest II

It's pretty much like a lot of things they do with EQ2: they see another game has a good idea, make a half-assed copy of it, and then never go and fix it. EQ2 is an amalgam of things like that now, which grants it a quirky charm but also makes it frustrating as hell to engage with.

Don't forget you can do instant adventures in those zones to get rep too.

    Rift: Planes of Telara

At least for now, it's pretty easy, albeit boring to grind out the currency for that stuff thanks to cross-server events. I will scream if the costs for the next tier of gear are balanced around the idea that people will go out and farm every event on every server possible, though. At the moment...

    Rift: Planes of Telara

For what it's worth, a lot of the notoriety bumps from quests were increased. I believe they also introduced some lower tier faction rewards so that it's not capped faction or you don't get shit. Also, there is at least one thing to gain from PVP: the BIS trinket by a long shot. :b I quit...

    Everquest II

Pretty much every piece of gear released after Destiny of Velious is Legendary or above -- quest rewards included -- which means you'll need item unlockers. This might also be the case with lower level gear after the big item revamp as well but I haven't taken a character through the quest lines...

    Everquest II

AE Auto does have a target limit, though (I think it's Primary Target + 4 Additional Targets?). PLing on Berserker was so much fun! SK is also a good suggestion. They can get 40% AE Auto through AAs (and more through gear/procs later on), plus they have a lot of blue AEs, the hardest hitting...

Yeah, you still need Age of Discovery for Beastlord. Maybe try an offense-oriented healer class (Fury, Warden, Inquisitor, Mystic).

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I don't think 4 people is a bad size for leveling dungeons. If it's anything like v1, the level cap dungeons will require 8 people, and I know they've mentioned 24-man raid groups before as well. I'm with you on art by the way. When I went back to FFXI last year, I was reminded of how good...

Nope, completely new client. To anyone with beta access, I recommend checking out the dev tracker on the beta forums. It's fun watching the producer, Yoshi-P, respond to some of the dumber posts.

If it's anything like my past experiences trying out MMOs at PAX, have fun waiting in line for 2+ hours to get fifteen minutes of playtime in the intro area.

    Rift: Planes of Telara

You might need some IS gear to get you in the door for experts, but after that, yeah, essences and I guess raid rift lures. With the cross-server stuff that's happening, you can bounce between shards farming IS quite quickly if you have the stomach for it. Do you plan on raiding?

Not to mention that the CoE Advanced Solo zones (which can be duo'd) have a chance to drop raid gear.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Slow down there! :b I don't think it's $150 worth it, especially since there's going to be an open beta phase. Objectively, the game isn't really revolutionary in any way, but I'm okay with that as long as I give a damn about my characters.

    Rift: Planes of Telara

Yeah, leveling in SL does get pretty tedious though I did enjoy some of the quest storylines. Lack of variety in zone events hurts as well. SL is so weird for me; it feels like it's less than the sum of its parts, which is really a shame. I'm still poking around on it though, mostly because I...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I've been avoiding saying too much in this thread for a couple of reasons: One, there's not much that can be said that hasn't already been discussed elsewhere without breaking the NDA, and two, based on thebeta roadmapwe're going to see a lot of additions over the next few phases, so I just...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Like I said, that works for one class, but in FFXIV you can have multiple classes on the same character, and it's not like Rift where you have a base character level and only have to level once.
  32. I

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Rift did something kind of like this with their Storm Legion expansion. A lot of the "actual" quest lines were used for story telling; to supplement those, you had "Carnage" quests which would be added to your log upon your first time killing a mob of a certain type, and then after killing the...

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I think ultimately though, you would still need those filler quests. Considering that you can level multiple classes on a single character, I don't see how they could possibly generate enough unique and interesting quests to help fill out the leveling experience for people who don't wanna grind...

I think quite a few of us ended up Tonberry. Servers are down for maintenance at the moment, though, so you can't create a character yet.

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

Like I said, Ipoked around a bitand it looks like it's only for the FATE system which I'm okay with; it'd be really annoying if a high level person could come and blow up an event mob like that.
  37. I

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

I'm curious to see how it will be handled; poking around a bit it seems like it will only be done for the FATE system. Hopefully they'll also let us optionally sync down to party members similar to FFXI.

    Everquest II

I went back semi-recently since I still had some time left on the year long subs I bought with plat last year, but I ended up quitting again about halfway through the long, tedious signature quest you're required to do as part of the new expansion. It is kind of sad to see the developers talk...
  39. I

Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

In the beta, sure. The lead designer said that dungeon grinding would probably be the fastest way to level, though collecting bear asses is another way. The thing about being too high level for a FATE is also misleading because the current iteration of the game doesn't have level syncing in yet...

There are people who think EQ2 has the best raid game. Those people hurt my head. Re: Dungeon Finder and role checks, there actually is one but it's not strict. That is, they don't require the same setup for every dungeon; for example, when it was first introduced it allowed for some pretty...
